About Organisation:
Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks and all the operational assets associated with the business.
Job Summary: To implement, manage and maintain the operations of the data center, ensuring its availability, security, and reliability. The Data Center Administrator is responsible for maintaining servers, storage systems, and network equipment critical to the electricity distribution company’s ICT infrastructure.
Impact: The Data Center Administrator ensures the seamless functioning of the data center which serves as the backbone of the organization’s ICT systems. This role is crucial for minimizing downtime, securing sensitive information and supporting uninterrupted electricity distribution operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reliable and efficient operation of servers, storage and network infrastructure
- Continuous monitoring of data center infrastructure, including power, cooling and hardware to ensure optimal performance
- Timely resolution of hardware, software and network issues in the data center
- Implementation of robust backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity
- Adherence to security protocols and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards for data center operations
- Accurate and up-to-date documentation of data center configurations, maintenance activities and incident reports
- Effective coordination with other ICT staff to align data center operations with overall infrastructure and organizational objectives.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing data center operations or related ICT roles
- Proven expertise in server management, storage systems, and network administration
- Familiarity with data center best practices, including power management, cooling systems, and disaster recovery planning.
Competencies
- Strong knowledge of data center hardware, virtualization, and network architecture
- Proficiency in system monitoring tools and backup/recovery solutions
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex data center issues efficiently
- Precision in managing configurations, monitoring system performance, and ensuring security compliance
- Clear and concise communication with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively with ICT teams to ensure alignment and integration of data center operations.
