Job Title:   Production/ Shift Supervisor

Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda

About the Company:

Steel and Tube Industries Ltd is one of the largest steel manufacturers and suppliers of quality steel products in East Africa. Our Products include: Roof Products, Hollow Sections & Open Profiles, Smart Tanks, STIL Bars, Wire Products, etc.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Study and analyze work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports, in order to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Set up and adjust machines and equipment.
  • Calculate labor and equipment requirements; and production specifications, using agreed productivity ratios.
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve work problems, complaints, or grievances.
  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Demonstrate equipment operations, work & safety procedures to new employees, or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
  • Coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production.
  • Inspect materials, products, and or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Keep employee work records, overtime hours and performance indicators.
  • Maintain operations data such as time, production, and cost records, and prepare management reports of production results.
  • Observe work, and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Requisition materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services.
  • Determine standards, production goals and rates, based on company policies, equipment and labor availability, considering workloads.
  • Effective supervision of what is done and what is produced.
  • Updating attendance register.
  • Record, receive and cost customer material in case of absence of Production in Charge and make daily and monthly production reports.
  • Must wear PPE and adhere to all safety rules.

Authority:

  • Reports to Plant Manager through the Production in Charge
  • Supervises the Section Heads; Technicians, Artisans and Trade Trainees
  • Interfaces: (titles of people you deal with, e.g. from other departments, sections, customers)
  • Store-keeper/Dispatch supervisor
  • Sales and marketing managers
  • Logistics Manager

  • Facilitate security of company staff and property.
  • Promote health and safety at the workplace.
  • Encourage teamwork for the purpose of a smooth and prosperous management
  • Help create a culture and atmosphere of hard work and high personal integrity.
  • Safeguard the company’s systems and Terms and Conditions of employment.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Qualifications: Bsc Degree Engineering or in Engineering (electrical, general);
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years
