The African Initiatives for Relief and Development (AIRD) is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit making NGO with Country Program Offices in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Niger, Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. AIRD’s objective is to offer operational support, including but not limited to supply chain, logistics, construction, infrastructure, environment, livelihoods and WASH in partnership with relief and development organizations that focus on disaster-affected and development-oriented areas. AIRD delivers for and through partners including but not limited to UN Agencies, international and national donor organizations and governments
Job Summary: The Communications Graduate Intern will help enhance AIRD’s visibility and storytelling by supporting various communication and branding initiatives. The intern will collaborate closely with the Communications & Marketing Manager and assist in managing digital platforms, creating visual content, and developing communication materials that showcase AIRD’s work and impact.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Media Management
- Regularly post and schedule engaging content across AIRD’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram).
- Monitor audience engagement and provide recommendations to improve reach and interaction.
- Assist in drafting captions and selecting visuals for social media posts.
Graphic Design & Content Development
- Design flyers, infographics, bulletins, and capacity statements that effectively communicate AIRD’s work.
- Create visually appealing PowerPoint templates for internal and external use.
- Support the development of branded social media templates incorporating AIRD’s green theme, field photos, and informative content.
Storytelling & Visibility Enhancement
- Collect and organize field photos and success stories that showcase AIRD’s impact.
- Draft short human-interest stories for digital platforms.
- Assist in compiling content for AIRD’s quarterly bulletin or newsletter.
- Upload and manage content on the organization’s website.
Administrative Support
- Assist in organizing and archiving communication materials.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute innovative communication ideas.
- Support other communication-related duties as needed.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Basic graphic design proficiency (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or similar tools).
- Familiarity with social media management and content scheduling.
- Interest in humanitarian work and international development.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
