About Organisation:
The Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/ Uganda German Cultural Society is a non-political and non-profit organisation (cultural society) based in Kampala. It is a cooperation partner of the Goethe-Institute that yearly supports the projects of the cultural society with financial help. Our core tasks consist in the promotion of German-Ugandan relationships and in the building of a platform for the intercultural dialogue in Kampala and with other African countries. We seek this by offering cultural events and German and Luganda classes.
Job Summary: The Uganda German Cultural Society / Goethe-Zentrum Kampala is a cultural and language institution promoting German language learning and supporting the growth of the local art scene. We are currently looking for a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Accountant at our Kampala office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage daily financial transactions and maintain accurate financial records
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monitor budgets, track income and expenses and provide quarterly financial projections
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws and donor guidelines
- Prepare for financial audits and collaborate with internal and external auditors
- Process payroll and manage staff reimbursements
- Manage and track procurement of office items and equipment
- Manage cash flow and bank accounts, including reconciliations and maintaining relationships with the bank representatives
- Develop any internal finance documents and manuals required
- Assist in developing internal financial controls where necessary
- Receipting and registration of students
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
- Proficiency in Quick books accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Knowledge of local tax regulations and statutory obligations
- Good communication skills in English
