Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks and all the operational assets associated with the business.
Job Summary: To provide administrative and clerical support for the legal department, ensuring accurate documentation, efficient record-keeping and timely delivery of legal documents. The Legal Clerk plays a critical role in facilitating the smooth execution of legal processes and maintaining operational efficiency.
Impact: The Legal Clerk ensures that legal operations are supported through accurate filing, timely delivery of correspondence and effective coordination of administrative tasks. This role enhances the efficiency of the legal team by enabling legal professionals to focus on core legal functions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize, file, and maintain legal documents and case records systematically
- Assist in retrieving legal documents for cases or internal requests
- Prepare and distribute legal correspondence under the supervision of the Legal Assistant
- Ensure timely delivery and follow-up of court filings, notices, and other critical documents
- File legal documents with courts and government agencies as directed
- Attend court sessions or hearings to deliver or collect documents as required
- Schedule meetings and appointments for the legal team and maintain calendars
- Assist in coordinating travel arrangements for legal personnel as necessary
- Maintain logs of case activities, document deliveries, and correspondence
- Prepare basic reports on tasks completed for review by the Legal Assistant.

- Legal documents and correspondence prepared and delivered within set timelines
- Court filings and documentation handled in accordance with legal deadlines and requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Legal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field
- Certificate in Paralegal Studies is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clerical or administrative role, preferably in a legal or corporate environment
- Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures is an advantage.
Competencies
- Basic understanding of legal documentation and filing procedures
- Proficiency in using office equipment and software (e.g., MS Office Suite)
- Knowledge of court filing processes is an advantage
- High level of reliability and integrity
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Strong time management and task prioritization abilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under supervision and meet deadlines
- Willingness to travel for court and administrative duties when required.
