Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks and all the operational assets associated with the business.
Job Summary: To provide support in the coordination and monitoring of UEDCL’s vehicle pool operations. The Graduate Trainee will assist in fleet tracking, maintenance scheduling, driver coordination, and data management while gaining hands-on experience in fleet operations and logistics planning.
Impact
This role offers critical exposure to transport operations and fleet management practices. The trainee will contribute to the day-to-day functioning of the vehicle pool and develop key skills required for future roles in logistics and transport management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in on-the-job training in vehicle scheduling, fuel usage tracking, and maintenance planning.
- Observe and assist with the allocation of vehicles based on staff needs and operational demands.
- Support in tracking vehicle service schedules and organizing maintenance appointments.
- Assist in documenting vehicle inspection checklists and workshop reports.
- Help track driver assignments and ensure driver logs and trip sheets are correctly filled out.
- Attend safety briefings and support driver performance monitoring under supervision.
- Maintain basic fleet data such as mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle availability.
- Assist in generating summary reports for fleet usage and cost tracking.
- Learn about regulatory compliance for fleet operations, including insurance, inspection, and licensing.
- Help update documentation for vehicle registration, inspection schedules, and road safety audits.
- Understand company safety standards and participate in initiatives to reduce fleet-related risks.
- Report any incidents or vehicle issues promptly and support the documentation of incident logs.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Transport & Logistics, Business Administration, Procurement, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Must have graduated within the last three (3) years from a recognized institution.
- Certification in fleet management (e.g., CILT, defensive driving, logistics) is an added advantage.
- Experience
- No prior full-time experience required.
- Internship or academic projects related to transport or fleet operations are a plus.
- Competencies
- Basic understanding of vehicle operations and transport planning.
- Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Willingness to learn, with strong attention to detail.
- Team-oriented mindset and good interpersonal communication.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and basic reporting tools.
- Interest in building a career in fleet/logistics/transport management.
