About Imagine Her:
Imagine Her is a local non-profit working with communities to accelerate the power and potential of women, girls, and youth as active leaders and social entrepreneurs creating sustainable solutions within their communities. We are implementing Project Hello World for which we are seeking to fill the vacant position of Training Facilitator Basic Computer Training.
Hello World is a not-for-profit that offers sustainable and replicable solutions to global poverty by bridging the digital divide. Our driving purpose is to give every community the opportunity to break the poverty cycle. We work with marginalized communities in developing countries to build community-built, solar-powered internet stations that get people online, and give children access to world class educational software. There are currently 59 Hubs across Uganda, reaching a total of 85 by March 2024. Many Hello Hubs are based in refugee settlements, providing essential communication and education services to communities. At every Hub, we run projects which support meaningful Hub use and inclusivity at every Hub. These projects teach digital literacy and give communities the skills they need to make the most out of their Hubs.
About Project:
Hello World has partnered with the UNHCR to deliver one Hello Hub and refurbish an existing computer Hub site in BidiBidi Refugee Settlement, in the West Nile Region of Uganda. In addition, we will deliver basic computer training to 80 refugees in this Hub community. This training will offer a basic course focusing on increasing digital literacy in Hub communities, enabling them to participate in the digital world. The trainer will deliver the training over a 3 month period to 80 refugees, divided into groups based on need, who live in the community surrounding the new Hub. The trainer will train 40 people in the first month and 40 people in the second month, with baseline and endline tests taking place to understand the impact of the programme.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Mid September
- Participate in the Hello World Hub build in Bidi Bidi
- Be trained by Hello World team in community model
- Develop training curriculum based on needs observed in community
- Mobilize, engage community members to take part in basic computer training
- Undertake baseline computer skills assessment with selected participants
- Categorize participants into groups based on needs
- Collaborate with local leaders, OPM at the local level to support engage the communities
- Conduct Community meetings
Mid October-Mid December
- Deliver training to 80 participants, 4 hours of training monday-friday
- Keep record of attendance and participant feedback
- Collect pictures and quotes from participants and community members
- Carry out endline test/survey for participants
- Organize graduation celebration for first 40 participants, including certificates
- Fill out end of programme report
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for someone who is committed to closing the digital divide in the most marginalized communities in Uganda. We are looking for a good communicator who can take initiative and is willing to take on a challenge. The trainer will live and work in BidiBidi for the three months of the project. The role will be demanding but also extremely fulfilling and supported by a well-established Uganda and international team. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in computer technology, digital skills or other relevant field.
- Experience in training and teaching
- Experience in reporting and impact evaluation
- Ability to communicate with wide variety of stakeholders
- Able to start work in September 2023
Desirable Skills
- Arabic proficiency, as well as other local languages spoken in BidiBidi
- Experience delivering training to refugee communities
- Experience living and working in Bidi Bidi
- Experience working on UNHCR projects is an added advantage
- Photography: ability to take and share photos suitable for external communication.
