Job Title: Head Finance
Organisation: Eversend
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
About Organisation:
Eversend is a leading FinTech company dedicated to ensuring that everyone is participating and winning in the economy and democratizing finance for all. We are Eversend, we are not just about money exchange- we are about you and the connections you have and make.
Job Summary: As Head of Finance, you will own the integrity of the financial records, controls and reporting of Eversend’s Ugandan business. You will ensure that the books close properly, balances reconcile, statutory and regulatory-finance filings are accurate, and the numbers can withstand scrutiny from management, auditors and regulators.
This is a hands-on role. You will work close to the ledger and reconciliations while building processes that become more automated, controlled and scalable over time — staying close enough to the detail to stand behind every number.
This role is distinct from the CFO function. You own accounting, financial control, the close, statutory reporting, regulatory-finance reporting and audit. Financial strategy, FP&A and fundraising sit with the CFO.
You will partner closely with Operations, Treasury, Compliance and Product, while maintaining independent judgment over the numbers. As the group grows, the role can expand into wider group financial control.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The monthly and annual close: maintain ledger integrity and produce accurate multi-currency accounts and Uganda statutory financial statements.
- Reconciliations: ensure bank, customer-fund, partner, float and ledger positions reconcile; investigate and resolve breaks rather than allowing unexplained balances to accumulate.
- Financial controls: design, document and evidence appropriate maker-checker controls, approval limits and accounting processes.
- Reporting: own required financial and regulatory-finance returns, ensuring that they are complete, accurate and submitted on time.
- Customer funds: own the accounting integrity and independent reconciliation of trust and safeguarded balances, working with Operations and Treasury on float execution.
- Audit, tax and filings: lead the external audit, manage tax compliance and statutory filings, and maintain a disciplined financial calendar.
- Scalable systems: identify repetitive or weak finance processes and work with data, Product and Engineering to automate them safely.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Current ICPAU membership in good standing.
- A recognised accounting qualification and strong grounding in audit, financial reporting and accounting judgment.
- Hands-on finance, financial-control or audit experience within — or serving — a bank, payments company, licensed financial institution or regulated fintech — you have personally run closes and worked reconciliations, not supervised them from a distance.
- Demonstrated ability to run a close, interrogate reconciliations, identify control failures and resolve discrepancies.
- Comfort with multi-currency accounting, regulatory reporting and the accounting treatment of customer or safeguarded funds.
- An automation-first instinct: faced with a repetitive manual finance process, you reach for data, systems and Engineering support before headcount.
- Strong advantage
- Big Four or similarly rigorous audit training.
- Experience in payments, e-money, fintech or stablecoin infrastructure.
- Experience with multi-entity reporting or group consolidation.
- Who this is for
- The most likely fit is the strong audit manager or financial controller who actually runs the close, the reconciliations and the audit file while someone more senior signs it off — ready to own the numbers end to end.
- Titles and years matter less to us than the closes you have run and the breaks you have personally found and resolved.
- This is a builder role in a founder-led company: the finance team is small today, and you will work in the detail while building a more automated, scalable function.
