Job Summary: The Fintech Consultant- Finance Engine Build Lead will be responsible for designing, building, and operationalising our client’s finance engine across motorcycle asset finance and smartphone finance. Will be expected to take ownership of the full finance operating model including credit, onboarding, collections, recovery, technology workflows, reporting, staffing, and customer journeys and turn these into functioning, scalable operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Motorcycle Asset Finance- Restructure and Scale
- Rebuild credit policy and loan origination at the branch counter; tighten approval discipline.
- Stand up a real collections engine covering field collections and call centre operations and clean up risk, repossession, and recovery flows.
- Get the LMS doing the work and put portfolio analytics in place to identify where collections leak.
- Design the whole customer journey and full process flow.
- Identify all existing workflows and determine the right staff and structure needed to operate them effectively.
- Design recovery workflows, create SOPs, and manage and train loan officers.
- Strengthen controls around credit approval, collections, recovery, and portfolio monitoring.
- Smartphone Finance- Build from Zero
- Own the full build of onboarding, billing, and mobile-money integration.
- Communicate with the device-locking provider and decide the locking approach, including prepaid locking.
- Build out the full team for the smartphone-finance business and identify the job roles needed.
- Be technically sound enough to build and execute the whole customer journey.
- Understand and build all workflows and define the appropriate business models.
- Collaborate with the developer team and locking-provider team to build out the complete mobile-money, locking, and LMS workflow.
- Define credit policy for the smartphone book and build the dealer network, collections, and customer-support functions.
- Specify the exact app build and reporting systems the business will need.
- Ensure the smartphone-finance operation has the required controls, processes, and reporting to operate effectively from launch.
- Across Both Finance Businesses
- Hire and train the permanent Finance Head and team the successor is a deliverable, not an afterthought.
- Identify the people, systems, workflows, and controls required to operate both businesses effectively.
- Document key processes and SOPs to ensure the business can continue operating after the consultant exits.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- 5-8 years direct experience at a smartphone / device financier (e.g. M-KOPA, Watu Simu, Sun King, or similar), having built or run onboarding, billing, device-locking, and collections.
- Direct experience building or running onboarding, billing, device/asset-locking, and collections at a device or asset financier.
- Strong understanding of credit, collections, recovery, LMS workflows, mobile-money integration, and device/asset-finance operations.
- Technically sound and able to work directly with developers, LMS providers, mobile-money providers, and device-locking providers.
- Proven ability to design and implement complete customer journeys, workflows, SOPs, and operating models.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams and train staff to operate new finance processes and systems.
- Strong execution and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take ownership of a build from design through implementation and handover.
