Job Summary: J&C Farm Limited, a fast-growing poultry business is seeking a highly organised, hands-on and commercially minded Senior Accountant to lead the day-to-day finance function of the business. The Senior Accountant will supervise the accountant and be responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, effective treasury and working-capital management, timely reconciliations, robust financial controls, and reliable financial and management reporting.
The role requires an individual who is comfortable working in a lean finance team, takes ownership of the full accounting cycle, and can translate financial information into practical insights for management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and processed on time.
- Review supplier invoices, payment documentation and customer balances.
- Maintain accurate supplier and customer ledgers and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Monitor receivables and support effective collection of outstanding balances.
- Ensure appropriate supporting documentation and authorisation for all payments and receipts.
Treasury and Cash Flow Management
- Manage the company’s day-to-day treasury operations and cash position.
- Prepare and maintain daily/weekly cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity requirements.
- Coordinate payments to suppliers, staff and other approved beneficiaries.
- Monitor bank and mobile money balances and ensure funds are available for operational requirements.
- Support implementation and control of the company’s cashless payment processes.
Bank and Account Reconciliations
- Perform and review regular bank, mobile money, customer, supplier and other balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure all finance records are complete, accurate and up to date.
Inventory and Fixed Asset Management
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory register and fixed asset register for farms, outlets and other company locations.
- Ensure additions, disposals, transfers and depreciation are properly recorded.
- Coordinate periodic stock counts and physical verification of fixed assets and reconcile the stock count and asset register to the accounting records.
Financial and Management Reporting
- Prepare timely monthly management accounts and financial reports for management.
- Prepare performance reports covering revenue, costs, profitability, cash flow, working capital and other key financial indicators.
- Provide management with financial analysis and insights to support operational and business decisions.
- Assist in preparation of budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
General Accounting and Financial Control
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are accurately classified and recorded.
- Ensure accounting policies, internal controls and financial procedures are consistently applied.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare schedules and information required for audits, tax filings and other statutory or management requirements.
- Identify control weaknesses and recommend practical improvements.
Key Performance Areas
- The successful candidate will be expected to deliver:
- Accurate and timely monthly financial and management reports.
- Timely and accurate bank, mobile money and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Effective management of payables, receivables and cash flow.
- Accurate and complete stock and fixed asset records.
- Strong compliance with internal financial controls and approval procedures.
- Timely and accurate financial information for management decision-making.
- Effective supervision and performance management of the Accountant.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
- At least 2 years’ relevant experience in a Senior Accountant, Accountant or similar finance role with responsibility for several accounting functions.
- At least level II ACCA or CPA is highly desirable
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with QuickBooks online ERP
- Experience working in an SME, audit firm, agriculture, FMCG or other operational business environment will be an advantage.

J&C Farm Limited is looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant who can independently manage most of the day-to-day finance function, while providing effective supervision to the Accountant and reliable financial information to management.
