Job Title: Steel Structural Designer

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
About the Company:
Steel and Tube Industries Ltd is one of the largest steel manufacturers and suppliers of quality steel products in East Africa. Our Products include: Roof Products, Hollow Sections & Open Profiles, Smart Tanks, STIL Bars, Wire Products, etc.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform structural analysis and design for buildings, warehouse, and other structures using appropriate software and design codes.
- Develop structural drawings, specifications, and calculation reports.
- Ensure structural integrity and safety through detailed analysis and modeling.
- Review and approve construction materials and methods based on engineering principles and project requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation and support project planning and budgeting.
- Prepare structural steel shop drawings and erection plans based on architectural and structural designs.
- Use analysis software- master series, staad pro , connection design ,Tekla designer, MBS
- Use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, SDS/2) to create 2D/3D models of steel components.
- Interpret and analyze structural engineering drawings and specifications.
- Revise drawings and plans based on feedback or design changes
- Maintain accurate documentation and drawing records.
Authority:
- Reports to General Manager –Structural Division
Safety:
- Ensure cleanliness in and around the outlet
- Facilitate security of company staff and property at the out let.
- Promote health and safety at the outlet.
- Encourage teamwork for the purpose of a smooth and prosperous management
- Help create a culture and atmosphere of hard work and high personal integrity.
- Safeguard the company’s systems and Terms and Conditions of employment.
- Ensure cleanliness around your work area.
- Enforce PPE usage by employees in the plant at all times.
- Guidance and on-the job training of workers especially new ones in good environmental maintenance and safer working procedures in order to reduce occupational accidents.
- Assist management to identify resources required to improve EHS in the company.
- Ensure good housekeeping in the plant i.e. immediate cleaning of coolants and oil spillages, emptying of waste bins, shift of scrap from respective workplace.
- Ensure proper use of waste bins and their availability at the designated respective locations in your section.
- Assist in taking corrective actions for any EHS deficiencies identified during audits or day to day observations.
- Facilitate security of company staff and property.
- Promote health and safety at the workplace.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree).
- Proven experience in structural design and analysis (steel, concrete).
- Proficiency in engineering software such as MASTER SERIES, ETABS, STAAD.Pro,, SAFE, AutoCAD, or Revit.
- Experience: 4+ years
