About Organisation:
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research Organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, healthcare and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza- like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also epidemiological, basic and implementation research in HIV treatment, care and prevention programs in the Districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma and Buikwe.
Job Summary: The Program Midwife will provide technical support in the planning and implementation of HIV activities across supported facilities. Mentoring sites for improved HIV/ART services with a focus on PMTCT
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning
- Participate in the COP planning process, program workplan and budget development, providing technical guidance for eMTCT program inclusion.
- Participate in program target redistribution.
Capacity Building and Technical assistance
- Participate in capacity building initiative/ activities for district technical teams, sub grantee staff, health providers and case managers working within MNCH clinics through; CMEs, cross learning sessions; on job/off site trainings, coaching and mentorship using the Quality Improvement approaches in line with the national quality improvement framework.
- Contribute to capacity strengthening initiatives for eMTCT services through identified of training needs and development of training strategies and materials.
Program implementation
- Implement eMTCT related activities as detailed in the approved annual PEPFAR program workplan
- Provide appropriate technical and supervisory support to facilities and program sub grantees for effective implementation of eMTCT related program activities
- Support implementation of the Differentiated Service delivery models for HIV Care and treatment in MUWRP supported districts/ health facilities.
- Work with SI for periodic eMTCT-EID cascade analyse to measure performance against set program targets and use this data to implement evidence-based programming
- Work with ministry technical teams and provide technical assistance in planning, implementing, and monitoring the QI interventions aimed at improving outcomes in the eMTCT-EID cascade.
- Represent MUWRP in related external engagements such as meetings, workshops, IHPT/MHRP calls
Program monitoring and reporting
- Contribute to the development of program data collection and reporting tools aligned with the MUWRP and PEPFAR program goals and objectives.
- Support the periodic collection of accurate, consistent and timely programmatic data as may be required by MoH/ PEPFAR/IHPT/MUWRP to support reporting monitoring and evaluation of program performance
- Participate in periodic performance reviews with facility/ sub grantee teams for improved performance monitoring
- Participate in the planning and conduct of data/service quality assessments and other evaluations as may be required.
Resource Mobilization
- Engage in alternative resource mobilization initiatives for the organization such as grants writing, strengthening/ building on resourceful collaboratives
Knowledge sharing and learning
- Identify, document, disseminate, adapt and scale up best practices and innovations in the Paediatric and Adolescent Health program
- Write abstracts to improve knowledge sharing and MUWRP visibility.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in nursing and midwifery. Registered and Licensed with the Nursing Council of Uganda.
- Training in PMTCT and Adult/Paediatric ART is an added advantage.
- At least three years of experience in the implementation of PMTCT and the cervical cancer program.
- Knowledge in HIV care and management, including the current national guidelines for HIV prevention, care and treatment.
Other desired attributes
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Proficient in interpreting and analysing diverse data, understand paediatric HIV epidemiology
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve set goals.
- Ability to meet very tight deadlines.
Physical Availability:
- Ability to permanently reside in Luwero/Nakasongola
- Ability to frequently travel to the MUWRP PEPFAR supported sites in Buikwe, Kayunga, Mukono, Nakasongola, Luwero and Buvuma Islands
