About Organisation:
The Law Development Centre (LDC) is the premier government-owned institution of higher learning responsible for providing practical legal education in Uganda. Established in 1970 under the Law Development Centre Act, it holds the exclusive mandate to offer the postgraduate Bar Course required for practicing law in the country.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To draft research proposals.
- To gather, analyses and interpret data for publication.
- To collect judgments to assist in Law Reporting.
- To participate in developing research strategies for LDC.
- To participate in impact assessment and performance evaluation of LDC’s research findings.
- To assist in Law Reform activities.
- To draft papers for various officials to present in workshops and seminars.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Laws – LLB (Hon) degree.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.
- Must be an enrolled Advocate.
- At least two (2) years’ work experience in legal research.
- Must have authored or co-authored at least two (2) articles published in peerreviewed journals.
- Demonstrated experience in legal writing, editing, law reporting and publication.
- Knowledge of legal research methodologies, research proposal writing, data analysis and report writing.
- Strong knowledge of computer applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-management skills.
- Creativity and innovation.
- High integrity and commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Results-oriented.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent legal writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent planning, organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
