Job Title: Principal Accountant

About US:
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is a semi-autonomous agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities. UWA was established in 1996 and is managed in accordance with the Wildlife Act Cap 200.
Job Summary: To provide technical support and guidance in revenue and investment management of the Authority.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identifying and developing internal controls to administer the generation, collection of all revenues due to UWA in accordance with the financial procedures.
- Preparing and disseminating guidelines for revenue collection.
- Banking of all revenue in accordance with financial regulations and ensuring that all payment platforms are secure and properly utilised.
- Liaise with all revenue generating departments on all matters regarding revenue of the Authority.
- Identifying potential investments that can spur revenue growth for the Authority.
- Reviewing and approving revenue forecasts and monitoring revenue collection at the different collection centres.
- Reviewing returns from collection points to ensure proper recording and accounting for the Authority revenue.
- Reviewing and approving demand notes for issuance to customers with outstanding balances.
- Handling customers’ complaints, clarifications related to billings, statements and receipts.
- Reviewing schedules for interbank transfers for posting the same in the system.
- Reviewing the unearned revenue schedule and prepayments ledgers.
- Handling all audit queries from internal and external auditors.
- Supervising and appraising staff.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in either Finance and Accounting, Commerce (Accounting) or Business Administration (Accounting) from a recognized University.
- A Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Accounting or Finance) or Finance and Accounting from a recognized University.
- Full Professional accounting qualifications with membership to CPA or ACCA Or
- Full professional accounting qualification with a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting or Finance) from a recognized University.
Experience
- At least six (06) years relevant experience, three (3) of which should have been as Senior Accountant from a reputable Organization.
