Job Summary: UNICEF Uganda is seeking an intern to support ICT operations in the Uganda Country Office for a period of three months in driving significant impacts for the children of Uganda. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and passionate team that works together to implement the ICT and Technology for Development Strategy to improve the quality of health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and basic education of Ugandan children, protecting them from violence, exploitation, and abuse. The Intern will have an opportunity to learn and contribute to the ICTD strategy implementation in the Country Office.
The primary purpose of the internship will be to support the development and enhancement of the interns’ professional and educational experience through practical work assignments, to expose the intern to UNICEF’s work, as well as well as to promote learning for the intern on ICT operations within UNICEF. The ICT Intern will be responsible for assisting the section in deploying re-usable devices o schools and learning centers, implementing the ICT Equipment tracker, contribute towards the enhancement of user service support and guidance, ensure knowledge management through documentation of ICT processes and guidelines, and any other assignments of additional duties and responsibilities that may arise during duties. The interns are expected to produce actionable information products. This requires familiarization with both traditional and non-traditional sources of data in day-to-day work. They should be organized and able to implement assigned data centric projects from start to finish. They should be able to present technical information and findings in a way that is easily understood by the sector members and the management, such as data visualization, mapping, narrative writing, and in-person communication.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Technology for Development (T4D) Support
- Prepare reusable equipment (laptops, desktops, printers, scanners) to be donated to schools and learning centers. Contribute to documentation and reports development.
ICT Inventory
- Develop a simple web-based solution to track low value ICT equipment inventory including equipment on warranty, in ICT store, and on loan to staff.
Helpdesk Support
- Provide support to deploy end-user equipment; troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment including laptops, user peripherals, and communication devices.
Meeting and Conferencing Support
- Provide technical support, training staff on the use of various apps and conferencing facilities.
- Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for UNICEF ICT Intern job should be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree in one’s final year of study or have graduated in the last calendar year with formal training and certifications in relevant ICT related fields with a focus on Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering.
- Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with strong technical, troubleshooting, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent knowledge of computer laptop/desktop hardware and software such as Windows 10, Microsoft Office suite and other UNICEF applications. Familiarity with networking, telephony, Active Directory, MS Office, tele / video conferencing, smartphone hardware and software (IOS, Android, etc.), mobile phone service technologies and ticketing systems.
- Have excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with various diverse cultural groups
- While experience in ICT operations, and ICT-related project work and customer service will be considered as an added advantage, it will not be a prerequisite
- Fluency in English is required- both verbal and written skills are required
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old
- Be a Ugandan national
- Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.
- It is expected the ICT intern will work on a full-time basis on-site.
