Job Summary: The Internship
will support the GGGI Uganda Team (Officer – Energy) in the mainstreaming of
Green Growth in sector policies, strategies, plans and legal framework
especially for the renewal energy sector in line with the country’ work program
and budget; and the priorities outlined in Uganda green growth development
strategy (UGGDS) and country planning framework (CPF). The internship will
allow students who are interested in becoming development practitioners apply
the knowledge they have learned through their studies in the energy sector in
Uganda.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:   
  • Offer timely support to review and develop
    a catalogue of the Existing Policies, Strategies, Plans, Projects and
    legal frameworks in the Renewal Energy Sector in Uganda. In this process also
    support identification the non-existent and potentially relevant Policies
    and Strategies that can enhance Green Growth in the Energy Sector. This
    will be done with support from the Energy Officer in the Country Team.
  • Working with the Energy Officer, support
    to conduct a GGPA for the Energy sector to identify gaps, challenges and
    opportunities for green growth mainstreaming in the existing policies,
    plans, strategies, projects and legal frameworks.
  • Work in liaison with the Energy Officer,
    convene the Major Sector actors and conduct consultative meetings and
    Workshops on Green Growth Mainstreaming in the Sector – This includes both
    Capacity and awareness meetings but also technical mainstreaming Work.
    This will include minute taking and management of workshop materials.
  • Participate in supporting the Ministry of
    Energy in the Development of the National Renewal Energy Roadmap and
    Investment Plan
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
The Intern should either
be;
  • Enrolled in a Master’s or in a Ph.D.
    program, or in the final year of a Bachelor’s program in the areas of Energy,
    Environmental Management, Environmental engineering, economics, development
    or other similar areas
OR
  • Completed a Bachelor’s, Masters or PHD
    Degree in last 12 months
OR
  • Between a first degree and graduate school
    (gap year)?
  • Currently interested in or studying topics
    related to green growth, renewable energy and solid waste management
    approaches, including waste to resource solutions.
  • Familiar with the renewable energy
    landscape of Uganda, including the challenges and opportunities for
    renewable energy finance, the history and process of legal and regulatory
    development in the energy sector, and/or an understanding of the implications
    for renewable energy expansion in Uganda.
  • Fluent in English. Strong English writing
    skills are essential (writing test required).
  • Familiar with the structure and functions
    of various government institutions in Uganda
Internship Terms and Conditions:
  • Duration: The internship
    program lasts for at least three months and can be as long as six months.
    Once selected, interns must begin the internship either prior to or within
    12 months of graduation.
  • Cost: All costs related to
    travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by
    either the interns or their sponsoring institutions. A monthly allowance
    shall be given by GGGI as an additional contribution to the above
    expenses.
  • Visa: GGGI will provide a
    supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and
    financing the necessary visas.
  • Travel: Intern will arrange and
    finance their travel to the internship location.
  • Medical insurance: Interns must present
    proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI were necessary.
  • Confidentiality: Interns must
    be discreet and keep confidential any and/or all unpublished information
    obtained during the internship and may not publish any documents based on
    such information.
  • Academic Credit: Interns may
    get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the
    internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their
    academic credit policy for internships.
