Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda with routine field visits

Reports to: Head of Programs

Responsible for: Project Staff

 

About US:

The African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) is a Non-Governmental organisation in Uganda which commenced operations in 1993 whose mandate includes advocacy against torture and provision of physical and psychological treatment and rehabilitation, social support and legal services to survivors of torture.

 

Job Summary:   The Project Manager— STOP Torture Project is responsible for the overall STOP TORTURE project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, quality assurance and reporting about project activities and results.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management and Implementation

  • Plan the delivery of the project and its activities as per the Project Work Plan
  • Coordinate the implementation of project activities in accordance with the project work-plan and organisation policies
  • Ensure that project activities operate within the policies and procedures and comply with all relevant donor, legislations and professional standards
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with the project activities and take appropriate action to control the risks
  • Control the project-budget performance to ensure activities are implemented according to the budget and take action to remedy the gaps.
  • Develop effective relationships with all project partners and collaborators including government departments for effective and efficient project implementation.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • Continuously measure the progress of project activities against established schedules and indicators of success as per the project MELP.
  • In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager carryout Monitoring and supervision visits to the project areas to track the progress of the project.
  • Ensure that project results, lessons learned and good practices are documented for possible wider application or project adjustments.
  • Support the identification, documentation, and dissemination of project results to partners including Donors and government officials

Reporting and Communication

  • Prepare time project qualitative and quantitative monthly, quarterly and milestone reports for Management
  • In consultation with the Head of Programs, ensure compliance and timely preparation and submission of project reports as defined by organizational policies and the contract signed with the donor.
  • Liaise closely with the Head of Programs ensure that open communication and feedback is received and all duties are carried out in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ensure the Head of Programs is updated on all activities designated to your responsibility and any difficulties that may arise, through regular briefing and meetings
  • Ensure that all project reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, management, economics or related field
  • Post Graduate qualification in a relevant discipline
  • At least four years of work experience of which 2 must be in project management
  • Experience in leading projects
  • Previous experience working on USAID projects is an added advantage
