The African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims ( ACTV ) is a Non-Governmental organization in Uganda which commenced operations in 1993 whose mandate includes advocacy against torture and provision of physical and psychological treatment and rehabilitation, social support and legal services to survivors of torture.
Job Summary: The Clinical Psychologist will provide quality psychological care services to torture survivors at individual and group levels thereby improving the psychological well-being of the clients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver mental health services to torture survivor’s responsibilities. Provide holistic and quality care to torture survivors
- Screen clients for eligibility for mental health services.
- Conduct psychological assessments to identify client’s needs
- Establish a baseline intervention and set the psychological treatment plan
- Plan sessions by using the session plan template and conduct psychological counseling
- Make client referrals based on appropriate identification of clients needs
Devising and monitoring appropriate treatment programmes including counseling, therapy session, etc. Conduct psychological assessments to identify client’s needs
- Offering therapy and treatments for mental health clients.
- Provide psychological care services to clients through psychological counseling or psychotherapy.
- Evaluate each psychological counseling/psychotherapy session
- Conduct follow-up assessments.
Seek and receive clinical supervision Revise and monitor appropriate treatment programmes
- Fill the session evaluation template.
- Actively participate in individual and group clinical supervision sessions
- Prepare cases for case discussion on a periodic basis
Coordinate with other mental health staff. Coordinate with other mental health staff
- Participate in clients management meetings
- Participate in mental health coordination meetings
- Participate in mental health service fundraising activities
- Participate in mental health capacity building activities
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside medical officer, nurses, social workers and psychiatrists.
Ensure documentation of all mental health activities.
- Prepare and submit activity reports on mental health activities and periodic reports to the mental health coordinator
- Ensure that the clients psychological care process
- Compile minutes of all meetings related to mental health services
Prepare reports.
- Give inputs to the ACTV strategic plan and Annual work plan
- Compile activity reports on mental health activities
- Facility preparation of periodic reports
Appear as an expert witness in courts of law
Maintain an efficient system for keeping patients records and other important documents
Key Performance Indicators
- Provision of appropriate mental health treatment The number of survivors who receive appropriate mental health treatment
- Timely and accurate reports The number of activity and periodic reports
- Knowledge of professional ethics and code of conduct
- Knowledge of psychosocial need assessment
- Knowledge of effects of torture and psycho trauma
- Listening, questioning strategy skills
- Knowledge of mental health case management systems
- Reports submitted to the UHRC and courts of law
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology, counselling psychology or any other related qualification
- Two years of relevant working experience in a similar position
- Aged 35 years and below
