Job Summary: To provide senior technical leadership in the planning, investigation, design, review, assurance and construction support of civil infrastructure for irrigation, water supply, solar and other Nexus Green projects. The role ensures civil solutions are safe, durable, constructible, cost-effective, environmentally responsible and compliant with applicable standards, contractual requirements and Nexus Green’s technical governance framework. As a key civil engineering discipline lead, the position provides technical direction to Civil Engineers, supervises design consultants, reviews deliverables, supports construction teams, manages civil engineering risks, and strengthens technical capability through standardization, mentoring, knowledge management, innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from a recognised institution.
- Professional engineering registration with a recognized engineering regulatory body, preferably with a valid practicing licence in water resources, Agricultural engineering, or civil/water engineering.
- Membership of a recognized professional engineering institution is desirable.
- Master’s degree in civil engineering, Hydrology, Renewable Energy, Irrigation Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Water and Sanitation or related discipline.
- Specialist training or certification in civil engineering design and construction for irrigation, water supply and renewable energy infrastructure, including hydraulic structures, pump stations, reservoirs, water tanks, drainage, solar PV foundations and associated civil works.
- Project management or commercial qualification/training, with demonstrated understanding of infrastructure project delivery, cost optimization, contract administration, and technical input to bids and business development.
- Experience in for donor-lender funded projects.
- Experience with donor-funded or government infrastructure projects and project development and formulation is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil3D, GIS, and advanced engineering spreadsheets.
- Familiarity with EPANET, WaterGEMS or comparable modelling tools
- Minimum 8-10 years of relevant professional experience in civil engineering, with at least 5 years of experience in in irrigation, water supply, renewable energy or related infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience in civil engineering assessment, design, technical review and construction support for irrigation, water supply and renewable energy infrastructure.
- Proven experience in the design and technical review of pump stations, reservoirs, water tanks, intakes, drainage systems, access infrastructure, solar PV foundations and associated civil works.
- Practical experience in construction-stage design compliance inspections, quality assurance and resolution of civil engineering technical issues.
- Experience in managing civil design consultants and multidisciplinary teams, including review of technical deliverables and coordination of design interfaces.
- Experience supporting technical bids, proposals, feasibility studies, value engineering and project development, preferably for government or donor- funded infrastructure projects.
