Job Summary: To provide support on planning, assessment, design, and implementation of irrigation, drainage, hydraulic, and related infrastructure projects. The role assists with technical assessments, feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed designs, design reviews, site inspections, construction supervision, testing, and commissioning under the guidance of senior engineer(s). The position also supports technical quality assurance, consultant coordination, preparation of technical reports, drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities, as well as bid and business-development activities. The Irrigation Engineer helps ensure that project deliverables comply with approved designs, specifications, statutory requirements, and Nexus Green’s technical standards.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Professional engineering registration with a recognized engineering regulatory body, with a valid practicing licence in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Agricultural engineering, or civil/water engineering.
- Proficiency in FAO LocClim, CHIRPS, FAO CropWat and ClimeWat, EPANET, and other irrigation and water resources software.
- Membership of a recognized professional engineering institution is desirable
- Specialist training or certification in Irrigation and hydraulic modelling, Climate change analysis, GIS/remote sensing, ArcMAP/ QGIS software and drainage engineering.
- Post graduate qualification in a relevant field
- Experience in donor-funded or government infrastructure projects and project development and formulation is an added advantage
- Minimum 6-8 years of relevant professional experience in Irrigation and drainage, hydraulic, and Agricultural, or related engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in both pressurized and non¬pressurized irrigation designs, drainage and hydraulic analysis, use of topographical survey data and engineering design.
- Proven experience in climate change adaptation measures and water management.
- Practical experience in irrigation and water supply infrastructure, including design review and construction- stage technical compliance.
- Experience in managing design consultants and multidisciplinary teams, including review of technical deliverables and resolution of technical issues.
- Experience supporting technical bids, proposals, feasibility studies, and project development, preferably on government or donor-funded infrastructure projects.
