Business Acceleration & Success Officer Jobs – Women in Technology Uganda (WITU)
Job Title: Business Acceleration & Success Officer
Organisation: Women in Technology Uganda (WITU)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
About Organisation:
Founded in 2014, Women in Technology Uganda (WITU) is a non-profit started by women for women. The goal of the organization is to transform the lives of women and girls from underserved communities into successful technologists and entrepreneurs. We achieve this through carefully working with communities and their people to bring lasting change.
Job Summary: The Business Acceleration & Success Officer makes sure that startups in the WITU Accelerator receive high-quality business advisory, coordinated mentorship, careful performance monitoring, and sustained growth support. Working directly with founders, the Officer diagnoses business challenges, shapes growth strategies, connects entrepreneurs with mentors and partners, tracks progress against milestones, and drives investment readiness activities.
The Officer is ultimately accountable for startups completing the accelerator with real, measurable improvements in revenue, customer growth, operational capacity, fundraising, and long-term sustainability.
We are seeking a passionate, results-driven Business Acceleration & Success Officer to provide hands-on support to entrepreneurs throughout the acceleration journey, helping them achieve measurable business growth and investment readiness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Startup portfolio management (30%). The Officer manages a portfolio of accelerator startups across the full program lifecycle.
- This begins with business diagnostics to understand each startup’s strengths, weaknesses, and growth opportunities, followed by an individualized support plan for every founder.
- Regular coaching sessions keep progress on track, agreed milestones and action plans are monitored closely, and struggling startups are identified early so that the right interventions can be put in place quickly.
- Business advisory and growth support (25%). The Officer offers founders practical guidance across business model refinement, customer discovery and validation, product-market fit, go-to-market and sales growth, marketing, financial planning, pricing, operations, team development, and scaling.
- Where founders hit barriers to growth, the Officer helps them work through the problem with tailored coaching and well-chosen referrals.
- Mentor and expert coordination (10%). The Officer matches startups with suitable mentors and industry experts, coordinates those engagements, and monitors the quality of each mentoring relationship.
- This includes organizing check-ins and feedback sessions and making sure founders act on the recommendations they receive.
- Investment readiness support (10%). The Officer prepares startups for investment by supporting pitch deck development, financial projections, business plans, due diligence, and investor data rooms, along with pitch practice and investment committee preparation.
- The role also coordinates Demo Day preparation and wider investor engagement.
- Performance monitoring and reporting (10%). Using WITU’s monitoring systems, the Officer tracks startup KPIs, keeps accurate records, and produces monthly portfolio performance reports measured against donor targets.
- Typical indicators include revenue growth, jobs created, customers acquired, capital raised, products launched, and partnerships secured.
- The Officer also gathers success stories and case studies that show the accelerator’s impact.
- Training and workshop support (10%). The Officer helps plan and deliver accelerator activities, coordinating workshops and bootcamps, supporting facilitator logistics, tracking attendance, evaluating learning outcomes, and following up on implementation after each session.
- Ecosystem and partnership engagement (5%). The Officer builds relationships with investors, financial institutions, corporate partners, business service providers, government agencies, and other ecosystem players, identifying opportunities that directly benefit accelerator participants.
How Performance Is Measured
- Performance in this role is judged on the success and growth of the startups it supports.
- Key measures include the share of startups completing the accelerator and achieving their agreed milestones, founder satisfaction, and business survival rates.
- On growth, the Officer is assessed on aggregate revenue growth across the portfolio, jobs created, customer growth, and partnerships secured.
- Investment readiness is measured through the number of investment-ready businesses, investor introductions facilitated, funding raised, and the quality of pitch and investment materials.
- Strong portfolio management shows up in timely coaching sessions, complete and accurate startup records, punctual reporting, and well-run program delivery with high mentor and founder engagement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, entrepreneurship, finance, economics, innovation management, commerce, development studies, or a related field.
- A master’s degree is an added advantage.
- We are looking for at least three years of experience in areas such as startup acceleration, business incubation, SME development, entrepreneurship support, venture building, business consulting, investment readiness, or innovation programs.
- Experience working with women-led businesses is highly desirable.
Skills and Attributes
- The successful candidate combines strong business judgment with the ability to build trusted relationships.
- On the business side, this means solid analytical skills, financial literacy, business model development, market research, a working understanding of sales and marketing, and strategic planning.
- On the relationship side, it means coaching and mentoring ability, stakeholder engagement, clear communication, facilitation, negotiation, and networking.
- The role also calls for comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and CRM or startup management systems, along with data analysis, report writing, and presentation skills.
- Beyond the technical requirements, we are looking for someone passionate about entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth: organized and detail-oriented, results-driven, analytical, proactive, adaptable, and collaborative, and comfortable working at pace in support of women entrepreneurs.
What Success Looks Like After 12 Months
- Within the first year, a successful Officer will have managed a high-performing portfolio of accelerator startups, achieved at least 90 percent completion of the program, and supported founders to reach measurable gains in revenue, customers, jobs, and market traction.
- Several businesses will have been prepared for investor engagement and Demo Day, a strong network of mentors, investors, and ecosystem partners will be in place, and the Officer will have strengthened WITU’s reputation as a leading accelerator for women-led and impact-driven businesses.
Why Join WITU?
- At WITU, you will work alongside people committed to changing lives through technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
- This role puts you directly in the path of high-potential businesses, strengthening Uganda’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and helping create sustainable jobs and economic opportunity for women and youth.
