Mengo Hospital was founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics, dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides critical training and education to health professionals through its various programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory technology. Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team that works to find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.
Job Summary: To assist the administration in receiving, orienting, and inducting new students.
Purpose: To provide all-round coordination of students’ general welfare at the school, including feeding, accommodation, discipline, security and safety, medical care, and social support services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
To ensure that all Training Institute rules, regulations, and values are observed and obeyed by students.
- To receive and handle students’ grievances effectively.
- To ensure the maintenance of cleanliness of the entire hostel environment.
- Ensure continuous availability of critical utilities at the hostel.
- To ensure that the hostel infrastructure/facilities are maintained in a proper state of repair and functioning.
- To ensure continuous information flow to the school administration about the situation of the hostel
- To take charge of students’ welfare in terms of feeding, accommodation, and medical care.
- To take charge of the safe custody of all l assets within the hostel premises.
- To ensure full-time security and safety for students and property at the hostel.
- To ensure a continuous and effective presence at the duty station
- To assist the administration in receiving, orienting, and inducting new students.
- As delegated by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Minimum qualification of a recognized diploma in the field of humanities/counselling from an accredited institution
- Basic qualification in administrative procedures.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in handling hostel affairs from a recognized institution
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a team
- Ability to produce quality reports and work under minimal supervision.
- Proven student counselling skills
