Job Summary: SR Afro Chicks & Breeders Ltd is a large-scale poultry company in Uganda. We seek a highly motivated and results-driven Mechanical Maintenance Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the company’s mechanical maintenance department, ensuring timely mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, spares acquisition, and stocking for smooth operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance:
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for mechanical systems in (EC Sheds) environment-controlled poultry sheds and feed plant machinery.
- Ensure smooth operation and timely maintenance of ventilation systems, cooling pads, exhaust fans, air circulation units, and water systems in poultry sheds.
- Oversee the maintenance of feed plant machinery, including pellet mills, hammer mills, conveyors, silos, boilers, and other mechanical components.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical breakdowns to minimize downtime.
Equipment Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Conduct regular inspections and performance checks on all mechanical systems in poultry sheds and the feed plant.
- Diagnose mechanical failures and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure proper calibration and alignment of mechanical components.
Boilers & Heating Systems:
- Oversee the maintenance of boilers and steam systems in the feed plant.
- Ensure proper functioning of heating systems in poultry houses, especially during brooding periods.
Spares & Inventory Control:
- Maintain spare parts inventory for all critical mechanical components.
- Coordinate with procurement for ordering and stocking necessary spare parts.
Team Management & Training:
- Lead the mechanical maintenance team and ensure efficient work distribution.
- Train staff on machine handling, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in mechanical systems, including conveyors, pellet mills, hammer mills, and boilers.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and air circulation systems.
- Familiarity with water pumping systems and pressure management in poultry houses.
- Experience with welding, fabrication, and machining for repairs and modifications.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to lead a team and manage maintenance schedules efficiently.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
