BAYIMBA (Cultural Foundation) was established in June 2006 (followed by formal registration on the 27th of November 2007) following a comprehensive exploration of the state of arts and culture in Uganda and East Africa. The organization sought to bring about change in the status quo of arts and culture in Uganda and East Africa: envisioning a vibrant sector that is creative, professional and viable and contributes to social and economic development, it embarked on a deliberate effort to uplift the standards of arts and culture.
Job Summary: The Organization is seeking a dedicated Coordinator of People with Disabilities to support individuals with disabilities in the Skilling and Training programs across various artistic disciplines, including Audio Production, Theatre, Film, Fashion, Poetry, and Literature. The successful candidate will ensure equal access, opportunities, and support for participants with disabilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Needs assessment and Support Planning:
- Assess the needs of individuals with disabilities and develop personalized support plans.
- Coordinate and implement services to enhance accessibility and inclusion.
Accessibility and Inclusion:
- Ensure physical and programmatic accessibility in all Bayimba programs and facilities.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote inclusive practices.
Advocate and Liaison:
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including families, educators, and service providers.
Training and Education:
- Provide training and guidance on disability awareness and inclusion.
- Develop and deliver disability awareness programs for staff and community members.
Case Management:
- Provide case management services, including referral, follow-up, and support.
- Facilitate access to community resources and services.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma or degree in Social Works, Rehabilitation Counselling or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Strong understanding of disability rights and advocacy.
- Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in arts and cultural programs.
- Familiarity with Ugandan disability laws and regulations.
- Certification in disability services or a related field.
