Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks and all the operational assets associated with the business.
Job Summary: To ensure the proper maintenance, repair and efficient operation of all company facilities and equipment. The role focuses on creating a safe, functional and well-maintained work environment directly contributing to employee productivity and organizational efficiency.
Impact: The Facilities Maintenance Officer ensures that all physical assets and facilities are in optimal condition. This enhances employee satisfaction, minimizes operational downtime and supports the company’s commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect, maintain, and repair company facilities, ensuring they meet operational standards
- Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all facilities and equipment
- Ensure facilities meet health, safety and environmental standards
- Address safety hazards promptly and ensure facilities comply with regulatory requirements
- Maintain an inventory of facility assets and equipment tracking usage and condition
- Plan for the replacement or upgrade of aging facilities and equipment
- Liaise with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance services
- Oversee contractor work to ensure it aligns with company standards and contracts
- Provide guidance, support, and oversight to the Assistant Facilities Maintenance Officer
- Ensure tasks assigned to the assistant are completed effectively and efficiently
- Assist in preparing the maintenance budget and monitor expenditures
- Ensure efficient use of maintenance resources and materials
- Respond promptly to facility emergencies such as breakdowns, leaks or power outages
- Coordinate immediate repairs to prevent disruptions to operations.
Expected Output
- Timely inspections, repairs, and upkeep of all facilities and equipment
- Detailed schedules and logs of preventive maintenance activities
- Documentation confirming facilities meet safety and regulatory standards
- Accurate records of facility assets, their condition, and maintenance history
- Verified completion of contracted work to the required standards
- Performance assessments and development plans for the Assistant Facilities Maintenance Officer
- Efficient budget utilization with minimal waste of resources.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Facilities Management, Building Maintenance, Engineering, or a related field
- Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) or Facility Maintenance is an advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a similar role
- Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance operations, including electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems
- Experience supervising staff or contractors in a maintenance environment is preferred.
