Job Summary: The Consultant – PS Core Planning & Data Solutions will participate in the design, planning and optimization of MTN UG PS Core platforms, to achieve a cost effective and optimal PS Core network design, and a timely deployment of quality products and services in line with the business strategic objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Setup, Collect and analyze network statistics (such as processor load, signalling/device congestion, hardware utilization) for PS core equipment such as EPS, 5GC, PCRF as may be needed.
- Review weekly, monthly and annual PS Core Network node performance reports that capture the gist of the statistics mentioned above for planning purposes.
- Monitor Core Network traffic and recommend PS Core capacity adjustments to meet traffic requirements through network status reports as well as planning, design, budget and operations meetings.
- Monitor Core Network Nodes Licenses so that timely license upgrades may be carried out without exceeding capacity limitations.
- Forecast Core network capacity requirements to meet growing traffic demands and subscriber projections as per the MTN business plan
- Ensure timely developments of project specifications for all new Core Network Platforms and services for submission to the Capital Projects department for implementation.
- Participate in/Lead design for all new Core Network customer and enterprise products
- Act as technical lead for Core Network Planning projects assigned. This includes Project management and tracking to ensure that products are launched within specified timelines
- Participate in conjunction with the Capital Projects Department in handover of all completed Core Network developments to Network Operations
- Recommend appropriate PS Core network resilience and redundancy plans
- Update and keep a record of all hardware and software versions of Core Network Equipment
- Carry out research on new PS Core platforms and software releases that can be used to improve services on the MTN network
- Participate in cross functional meetings with key stakeholders involved in the development and deployment of new Value-Added Services in order to define best solutions for new products and services·
- Meet with vendors on new market releases and technology upgrade path to ensure quick deployment of new and innovative products/services
- Primary interface with vendors on technical design, deployment and maintenance planning issues for PS Core Systems
- Carry out research and feasibility studies for new products and produce standard professional technical reports
- Champion automation and efficiency in the department
- Perform other duties as may be required from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a BSc Degree in Electrical, Telecommunications Engineering or computer Science.
Work Experience
- 5 years’ experience in Telecoms Network planning or operational role
- 3 years’ experience in Mobile GSM Network Environment
- Product development experience
- Project planning and management
- Organizing and supervisory experience
- High levels of learning agility.
- Good communication skills.
- Excellent Team Player skills and attitude
Skills and competencies:
- Exposure to GSM Network management processes, procedures and activities as well as experience working with Core Network systems.
- Exposure to project implementation and management
- Good Knowledge of PS Core planning techniques
- Good Analytical and Troubleshooting skills
- IP networking knowledge and skills
- Highly Self-motivated.
