Objective of the position: The overall role of the Position is to independently support Innovations in the Business Validation stage in the transition to become a Social Business and to grow. The role forms part of the global Welthungerhilfe Innovation Team and will be based in Fort Portal, Uganda.

The Key Account Manager will be initially responsible for the management, implementation, and monitoring of the social venture of Welthungerhilfe. Key Account Manager also expected to support the pipeline development, and WHH’s social businesses in Uganda. He/she will oversee the set-up and management of upcoming social business projects in Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Account Management

• Supports up-coming Welthungerhilfe portfolio social businesses in creating impact evidence, revenue stream development, refining business models, increasing customer base, conducting market research, obtaining required certifications.
• Build the business and operational management capacities of the product & social business teams.
• Support Welthungerhilfe in the business registration and legal set-up of social businesses
• Integration of social businesses in country office strategy
• Develop the pipeline of investable social businesses.
• Support and assist the social business portfolio manager in growing the social businesses in the region.

Development and Management of the project(s)

• Manage and report on the social business project that will be implemented by a partner organization.
• Carries out the project(s) according to the rules and standards of the co-financing donors and Welthungerhilfe standards for the implementation of projects.
• Ensures that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, finance administration, etc.)
• Is responsible for modifying and continuing project planning and the project budget.
• Develops needs based & impact-oriented project planning in the context of the ongoing project(s) (in line WHH and country strategy)
• Supports the identification of co-financing opportunities to be pursued and ensures the timely development of successful project proposals in line with the relevant donor regulations and strategies.
• Establishes good working relationships with donors and other stakeholders in-country for emergency, rehabilitation, and development programmes in coordination with the Country Office
• Reports to the Portfolio Manager Social Business – Innovation Unit on the progress of the project(s) and all risks associated with the project work.

Leadership

• Works with the partners to ensure proper project implementation.
• Ensures implementation of WHH policies and their adaption to local conditions

Collaboration and Networking

• Represents WHH in country vis-à-vis selected relevant national and international stakeholders and partners in coordination with country office and innovation unit.
• Expands WHH network with relevant stakeholders from civil society, government, and academia within the context of projects in responsibility.
• Marketing, public relations and local image management
• Accompanies visiting donors and WHH Head Office staff or journalists/or appoints adequate representation.

Duties without own area of responsibilities

• Contributes to the Innovation Unit strategies, actively participates in strategic discussions, and keeps herself/ himself informed of the overall organizational topics.
• Actively participates in the Innovation exchange meetings, development, and strategic planning.
• Fulfilment of any other tasks which are assigned by the management and correspond in general with the character of this position.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

• University or Polytechnic degree in Agriculture, Innovation, Business Management and/or International Relations.
• Experiences working for an Incubator or Accelerator, or a Venture builder is an asset.
• Experience as an entrepreneur or managing a business is valued.
• Experiences in registering businesses and acquiring product certifications in Uganda is an asset.
• Experience in development of revenue streams and business plans
• Experience in training and instructing others and helping them to develop their professional skills and experience.
• Experience with agile project management within the developmental sector are desirable.
• 3 years’ work experience in any or a mix of the above-mentioned areas is a must.
• Excellent spoken and written English, and any local language an asset.
• Excellent planning, organization, and program management skills
• Good analytical and reporting and proposal writing skills.
• Innovative, self-starter, Team player with excellent computer application proficiency.
• Ability to develop solutions using design thinking.
• Ability to work under pressure and in difficult local conditions and willingness to travel.
