Uganda
History Society, the oldest conservation NGO in East Africa. It was set up in
1909 as a scientific organization with the aim of documenting the diversity of
wildlife in East Africa. The mission of Nature Uganda is to promote the
understanding, appreciation and conservation of nature in Uganda. In pursuing
this mission, NatureUganda strives to: enhance knowledge of Uganda’s
biodiversity and critical habitats, create nature friendly public, advocate for
policies favourable to the environment, take action to conserve priority
species, sites and habitats. This aim encompasses conservation, awareness
rising and advocacy. Nature Uganda is a membership organization and has a
dynamic programme of events as a means of servicing the membership and
promoting appreciation of nature in Uganda and beyond.
and Communications Officer will serve as the head of delivering the membership
services, promotional and communications activities of Nature Uganda.
Responsibilities:
- The jobholder will formulate strategies
and initiatives to: retain members; recruit new members; increase events
participation and increase the media profile of the organization - Manage the daily operations, planning, and
implementation of Nature Uganda membership activities including
recruitment and retention, and data management - Tasked with the drafting of regular
communications with members and friends and maintain various databases and
name banks - Promote the implementation of attractive
membership activities and events - Work closely with individuals, groups,
institutions and organizations that are potential members, providing
appropriately information related to the organization - Co-ordinate the establishment of Nature
Uganda branches, working groups and together with respective Coordinators
or conveners design and implement their activity programmes - Membership duties that include
Implementing strategies and initiatives to recruit and attract new
members; service and retain existing membership - Events and programs duties to implement
marketing and promotional campaigns for the various membership and
corporate events and programs - Communication duties that include
E-Newsletters, other publications, WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA tools to share
NatureUganda work and programmes and finally management of MEDIA
relations.
Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a University
degree or equivalent in Marketing, Public Relations, Mass Communication,
Information Technology, Development Studies. - A minimum of five years of relevant
working experience in areas such as communication, membership management,
database management, marketing and similar experiences. - Good technical knowledge of conservation
issues as well as the political issues arising from conservation and good
network with the conservation stakeholders in Uganda - Excellent public speaking and writing
skills - Excellent interpersonal skills,
self-motivated, creative, and able to work with a variety of people,
singly or as a team - Good IT skills are highly desirable and of
considerable advantage
