About Organisation:
Uganda Christian University (UCU) is an authentic Christian institution established by the Church of Uganda in 1997 in response to a call for quality university education with a Christian perspective. Uganda Christian University replaced the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College which trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in course administration and instruction for the Medical school curriculum.
- Develop and deliver an integrated curriculum, which blends science and clinical concepts, in collaboration with faculty members in other disciplines.
- Employ multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large and small group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, team-based learning and distance education.
- Provide formative and summative assessment of undergraduate and post-graduate Medical student performance.
- Provide individual support, feedback, and advice to Medical students.
- Work closely with the course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Medical school’s curriculum.
- Engage in scholarship and academically-related public service.
- Supervising student Microbiology sessions, treatment plans, and competences; acting as a clinical academic advisor and/or undergraduate Microbiology portfolio supervisor, as requested by the Head of Department.
- Actively engage in research in Anatomy, or a related filed, within developing UCUSoM research themes.
- Provide support to research internally and externally by attending and presenting at relevant meetings.
- Engage in publication of original material (reviews, case studies, research results).
- Provide continuing professional development in the area of Microbiology.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must have a Master of Science in Nursing or related field from a recognized Institution of Higher learning.
- Must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Must have University teaching experience at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Lecturer for at least two (2) years or Tutorial Assistant for at least three (3) years.
- Must have at least one scholarly article or publication or should have undertaken at least one research project/paper.
- Must be registered or eligible for full registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council.
- Proven record of ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines; Evidence of ability to teach and to supervise academic work by undergraduates and graduates.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
- Proven record of ability to conduct high-quality research which is reflected in the authorship of high-quality publications, or other research outputs, in the area of nursing and midwifery.
- Proven commitment to academic research, commitment to high-quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students, and commitment to continuous professional development.
- Must be a committed and practicing Christian.
