Yaobai Cement, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed West China Cement, officially launched its US$300 million Yaobai Cement Karamoja plant in Nadunget sub-county, Moroto district. The facility operates as an integrated clinker plant, while finishing the product at a grinding station in Jinja, supplying the local market with high-quality, locally produced cement.
Job Summary: As part of our continued growth in Uganda, we are seeking a highly qualified, experienced, and results-driven Finance Manager to join our Finance team at our Jinja Plant. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership over the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, efficiency, and effective financial controls. The ideal candidate should have strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership capabilities, and a sound understanding of IFRS and Uganda’s accounting and regulatory requirements, preferably within a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate should also be able to work effectively in a multicultural environment, reporting to the Deputy CFO, supervising a team of 6 and duty station is Jinja.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger activities.
- Participate in month-end closing, including accrual accounting in accordance with IFRS
- Ensure compliance with applicable IFS, the Companies Act of Uganda, tax laws, and other regulatory requirements.
- Prepare annual financial statements and other financial reports.
- Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
- Review and optimize accounting processes, systems, and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage relationships with banks, suppliers, customers, and other key stakeholders.
- Manage the company’s insurance portfolio, ensuring timely procurement and renewal of insurance policies.
- Review and update the Accounting Manual and related financial procedures.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Education & experience requirements
- A minimum of a Second-Class Upper bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
- Full professional accounting qualification (ACCA or CPA).
- At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
- Sound knowledge and practical application of IFRS.
- Good understanding of internal controls and financial reporting.
- Experience with a Top 4 audit firm is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Oracle NetSuite is an added advantage.
- Highly motivated, results-driven, responsible, and accountable.
- Strong communication, analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
