Job Summary: The Account Handler supports the day-to-day servicing of a portfolio of client accounts, acting as the operational link between clients, insurers, and the service Manager. The role is responsible for accurate policy administration, timely renewals, claims coordination, and maintaining client satisfaction through responsive, technically sound service. The Account Handler is expected to combine traditional insurance administration skills with growing digital fluency, as broking increasingly relies on data platforms, automation, and analytics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Placement of covers (new and renewal): source for quotations, analyse quotes, evaluate insurers and submit the quote to the client under the supervision of the Manager.
- Process renewals for corporate clients within the set timelines and participate in risk survey exercises with the Manager.
- Check and dispatch policy documents and endorsements to clients, and revert to insurers for adjustments or omitted details, ensuring endorsements are dispatched within two to four weeks of renewal or instructions.
- Maintain accurate and up to date policy records, schedules and client files in safe custody, with file notes of all client and insurer communication.
- Respond to client queries and requests with the required information, advice and recommendations, and follow up on all pending matters
- Advise clients on cover options, policy terms, conditions and exclusions, and on the adequacy of their insurance programme.
- Record instructions from clients and refer them to seniors for advice; answer calls, take messages and route calls to relevant staff.
- Schedule and attend client meetings for reviews and other issues, prepare minutes and carry out any further follow up.
- Conduct client visits, including renewal and service visits, with the servicing and underwriting teams.
- Prepare and proofread correspondence, notes of meetings held with clients and insurers, and periodic and ad hoc renewal, account and client service reports as required by the Service Manager.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned to you.Credit control – Premium collection, reconciliation and outstanding balance in line with credit control policy.
Role Complexity
- Works on high demand of the clients due to the nature of their operations.Handles a portfolio of corporate accounts with varying cover requirements and renewal timelines.Able to draw conclusions based on the clients’ needs and apply results to the organisation’s business operations, demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Discretion
- Decisions normally have impact on the functional area and on clients and/or other parts of the company, and are typically guided by functional practices, management precedents and professional standards.Refers quotations, placements and nonstandard client instructions to the Service Manager for approval.
Interaction
- Builds and retains relationships with clients, insurers and other service providers.Uses knowledge to provide consultative advice and recommendations within specific functional areas.Represents the business at client meetings, renewal discussions and risk survey exercises.
Supervision/Leadership
- Works under the supervision of the Service Manager, Industry Department.No direct reports; may guide and support junior staff and interns on account handling processes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Education, Role-specific Technical Skills and Knowledge A Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a business related degree.
- A completed or ongoing professional insurance qualification (Diploma in Insurance, ACII, or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
- Sound working knowledge of general insurance products, policy wordings, endorsements and renewal processes.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Core Competences Report preparation skills, producing accurate, well presented renewal, account and client service reports.
- Client advisory skills, with the ability to explain cover options, policy terms and recommendations clearly to clients.
- Confidence in conducting client visits and representing the business in a front facing capacity.
- Technical Knowledge – Understanding of policy wordings, coverage triggers, exclusions, and endorsements
- Insurance policy maintenance skills, including accurate checking of policy documents and endorsements and disciplined record keeping.
- Can work independently, cope with high volumes of work and produce accurate and efficient output.
- Good planning, organizational, analytical, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Be dependable, respect confidentiality and actively contribute to team initiatives.
- Ability to apply artificial intelligence tools to daily tasks, including quotation comparison, document review, correspondence drafting, data analysis and report generation, while exercising professional judgment and safeguarding client confidentiality.
- Work Experience
- At least two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in insurance broking, underwriting or account handling.
- Demonstrated experience in client service, policy administration and report preparation.
