Job Summary: The Credit Officer will support credit assessment, monitoring, and follow-up for partner institutions, ensuring responsible lending and accurate credit records.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Transitioning Onboarded VSLAs into Credit
- Receive digitized/onboarded VSLAs from the VSLA Operations team.
- Conduct credit readiness checks on onboarded VSLAs (records quality, governance, savings discipline, meeting consistency).
- Classify VSLAs as credit-ready, deferred, or ineligible and provide feedback to the onboarding team.
- Support VSLAs to address gaps required for credit eligibility.
Credit Assessment, Disbursement & Monitoring
- Coordinate VSLA credit assessments and loan applications.
- Support loan approval and disbursement processes with internal teams and lending partners.
- Monitor loan utilization and repayment behavior at group level.
- Follow up on late repayments and support corrective actions with DCEs and group leadership.
Portfolio Management & Collections
- Maintain a healthy VSLA credit portfolio with a repayment rate of 98%.
- Monitor PAR and escalate risk cases early.
- Develop and implement recovery plans for delinquent groups.
- Ensure accurate loan and repayment data is updated in the system.
DCE Supervision (Credit Focus)
- Supervise DCEs assigned to credit-active VSLAs.
- Ensure DCEs conduct routine loan monitoring visits and repayment follow-ups.
- Support DCEs to manage multiple credit groups effectively.
- Mentor at least DCEs supporting credit operations in Teso/WestNile.
Coordination with Internal Teams & Partners
- Work closely with the VSLA onboarding team to ensure a smooth handover of groups.
- Coordinate with lending partners during disbursement and monitoring cycles.
- Serve as the primary credit contact for partners in the Teso/WestNile region.
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare weekly and monthly credit performance reports.
- Track credit pipeline, disbursements, collections, and portfolio risks.
- Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and partner requirements.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
- 2–3 years’ experience in microfinance, VSLA lending, or group credit.
- Strong understanding of VSLA methodologies and group lending risk.
- Experience working with field agents or community-based credit models.
- Comfortable working with digital loan management systems.
- Credit analysis and risk assessment.
- Strong field coordination and follow-up skills.
- Data-driven decision-making.
- Good stakeholder management skills.
- Integrity, discipline, and accountability.
- Basic computer skills (MS Excel, Word, email)
- Work Station: Field-based role with frequent travel within Soroti/Arua and neighboring districts.
- Diploma in mechanical engineering
- A bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
