Job Summary: The Auto Electrician will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting all electrical and electronic systems found in different vehicles, machinery, and equipment. S/he will perform electrical diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs to ensure vehicles and equipment remain in optimal working condition.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair various types of petrol and diesel engine vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, and engineering equipment.
- Highly capable of troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing damaged or faulty fuses, lamps, electrical wiring, batteries, alternators, starter motors, and ignition systems.
- Ensure that standard preventive maintenance measures are applied when carrying out repairs and servicing of all electrical equipment.
- Regularly perform electrical inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and functional checks on vehicle operating systems.
- Responsible for carrying out installation, maintenance, and repair of automotive electrical components, including alternators, gauges, lighting systems, sensors, and electronic control modules.
- Diagnose and repair electronic and automotive-controlled vehicle system faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Interpret and work with electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals during repair and maintenance activities.
- Ensure all vehicles, machines, and operating equipment are inspected and maintained in collaboration with relevant departmental teams.
- Continuously identify improved methods and solutions to enhance electrical maintenance efficiency and reduce equipment downtime.
- Apply appropriate safety measures when working on electrical systems, machinery, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of electrical repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities from time to time as assigned by the immediate supervisor in accordance with the job role.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a Technical/Vocational Certificate in Automotive Electrical Systems, Electromechanics, or a related field with relevant experience in plant and equipment maintenance.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as an Auto Electrician.
- Experience working with light vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, and construction equipment is an added advantage.
- Proven ability to diagnose, repair, and service electronic and automotive-controlled vehicle systems.
- Strong knowledge and experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of auto-electrical systems and components.
- Sound ability to interpret and understand electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of automotive electrical systems, tools, equipment, and technical terminology.
- Knowledge of CAN Bus systems, onboard vehicle electronics, and computerized diagnostic systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic scanners and troubleshooting equipment.
- Basic knowledge of automotive mechanics and hydraulic systems is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle operational challenges effectively.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.
