Established in 1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University is one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Africa. In January of that year, the school, which was later renamed Uganda Technical College, opened its doors to 14 day students who began studying Carpentry, Building and Mechanics.
Job Summary: Provide technical support onsite inspection, quality control and surveying of civil works
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to the Civil Engineer on Civil works;
- Communicate regularly with contractors and developer’s representatives to ensure compliance to design and construction standards;
- Provide onsite inspection of surface and underground improvements/ utilities for new projects and as redevelopments;
- Prepare inspection reports;
- Witness and confirm test results on new utilities and Geo technical compaction testing;
- Assess site specific drainage problems and recommend practical solutions;
- Monitor and report on effectiveness of sediments and erosion control plans
- Assist with reviews, communications and administration of new developments and sub divisions;
- Provide engineering information by answering technical questions and requests;
- Maintain Civil and building works;
- Collect data on all civil maintenance works needed in Colleges/ Schools, University staff houses and Halls of residences;
- Maintain mechanical, plumbing and refrigeration works;
- Carry our repair/ remedial civil works
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors of Civil Engineering from a recognized institution
- Communication and interpersonal skills;
- Team work
- Computer literate
- Attention to detail
- Age Limit: APPLICANTS SHOULD NOT EXCEED FIFTY FIVE (55) YEARS OF AGE AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION
