About Organisation:

Welthungerhilfe (WHH), founded in 1962, is one of Germany’s largest non-governmental aid and development agencies. We have worked in Uganda since 1986, in partnership with the Government of Uganda, national and local NGOs, jointly improving the livelihoods of the most vulnerable population in rural areas through interventions that increase their Food and Nutrition Security, improve sustainable access to WASH services, innovative youth skilling and women’s empowerment programs in five regions of Uganda.

 

Job Summary:   Coordinate implementation of humanitarian activities with national partner organizations according to the specified deadlines and organisational, contractual and financial directives and support in Development of Humanitarian Programs and Positioning for Funding.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide analyses of the humanitarian context and changing needs in sectors such as Food Security, Nutrition, WASH, Protection e.t.c. in the country.
  • Support the development and implementation of the humanitarian strategy anchored in the country strategic plan of Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Uganda.
  • Ensure that WHH Uganda’s humanitarian strategy and operations are efficiently linked with emergency preparedness planning and programming.
  • Support the development of humanitarian funding strategy for WHH Uganda.
  • Support the development of humanitarian project proposals and coordinate the technical implementation of activities by project partners in Uganda.
  • Coordinate rapid assessments and implementation in the field
  • Maintain regular meetings and exchange of information with key humanitarian response stakeholders including UNHCR, OPM, Start Network members and other humanitarian actors in Uganda.
  • Ensure regular participation of WHH in humanitarian coordination meetings in the country nationally and whenever required at field level.
  • Ensure WHH’s participation in inter-agency activities such as joint appeals and joint assessments.
  • Serve as the focal point for development, implementation, monitoring and updating of WHH Uganda’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPreP).
  • Provide the necessary capacity building to the country emergency response team (CET) and ensure implementation of the identified minimum preparedness actions.
  • Ensure that Anticipatory Action is mainstreamed and implemented in WHH Uganda humanitarian action programming
  • Ensure quality and adherence of WHH’s interventions to the global and organization’s standards.

Additional Contributions:

  • Participate in strategic planning and contribute to overall program development.
  • Carry out any other related duties as assigned by management.

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field e.g. Agriculture, Nutrition, Humanitarian Action Studies, Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution other relevant Social Sciences, e.t.c.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in same level of position or above in emergency response.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English (verbal and written).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team with members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good leadership, planning, organizing coordination skills.
  • Previous experience working in refugee settlements, transit centers or reception centers in Uganda is an added advantage.
  • Experiences with humanitarian donors like ECHO, START, WFP etc are desirable.
  • Experiences in Proposal Development for Humanitarian Interventions is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice to different locations required for the emergency intervention
