EMERGENCY opened the Children’s Surgical Hospital in Entebbe to provide free paediatric surgical care in Uganda, one of the youngest countries in the world: more than half the population is under 15. When the hospital first opened in 2021, the mortality rate for children under five in Uganda was 43 for every 1,000 live births.

Job Summary: The Assistant Engineering Officer (Biomedical) maintains and repairs biomedical equipment at the hospital, ensuring functionality and safety for patient care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide routine maintenance, repair, and calibration of hospital and medical equipment.
Update and maintain the medical equipment inventory.
Participate in conducting training of equipment users.
Participate in training technicians and artisans in medical equipment repair and maintenance.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

University or institution in Biomedical Engineering.

Other Requirements:

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Competencies:

Biomedical equipment maintenance and repair.
Inventory management and calibration.
Training and technical support skills.
Attention to detail and safety compliance.
