Based in Kampala, Uganda, we provide affordable (PayGo) electric two-wheelers to low-income motorcycle-taxi drivers, most known locally as “boda-boda ”drivers. We offer a battery swapping service to our clients, enabling to swap within minutes at any of our stations.

 

Job Summary:   Zembo is looking for a dynamic and strategic Head of Sales to lead our sales team, drive growth, and optimize our market access strategy. This role will have a strong focus on managing sales performance in the field, expanding our portfolio, and creating data-driven sales strategies that support our mission of expanding access to affordable electric mobility solutions. The Head of Sales will also play a critical role in implementing HSE-aligned practices and ensuring the sales team meets operational and safety standards.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Field Team Performance Management

  • Lead, coach, and manage Zembo’s sales team, setting performance targets and developing KPIs that drive accountability and results.
  • Conduct regular reviews with field teams to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Work closely with the People Operations team to ensure effective onboarding, training, and ongoing development for all sales personnel.

Portfolio Growth and Sales Strategy

  • Develop and execute Zembo’s sales strategies to expand market share, focusing on customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Identify and assess new market opportunities to expand Zembo’s sales portfolio, particularly in underserved regions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations and R&D, to align the sales strategy with company goals and ensure product availability.

Data-Driven Monitoring, Reporting & Optimization

  • Utilize data analytics and visualization tools (such as Tableau, Power BI, or Excel) to generate and monitor sales reports, track performance metrics, and inform strategic decisions.
  • Build and maintain interactive dashboards and reporting tools that give insights into sales trends, credit performance, and customer behavior.
  • Use data insights to optimize go-to-market tactics, adjust sales forecasts, and make data-informed adjustments to sales tactics.

Collaboration and Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as the primary point of contact for sales-related inquiries, collaborating closely with the Finance, Operations, and Customer Support teams to resolve issues that impact the sales pipeline.
  • Partner with the Head of Marketing to develop customer acquisition campaigns, field promotions, and incentive programs that drive sales engagement.
  • Represent Zembo in meetings with external partners and stakeholders to ensure alignment with operational and HSE standards.

Sales Process Improvement and Efficiency

  • Lead strategic projects to improve sales productivity and streamline operational processes.
  • Regularly review and refine Zembo’s sales processes to reduce the cost of sales, enhance customer experience, and improve the efficiency of field operations.
  • Implement and enforce best practices in HSE standards across the sales team, ensuring alignment with Zembo’s HSE policies.

Training and Development

  • Develop and implement training programs to equip the sales team with skills in sales techniques, customer service, and HSE compliance.
  • Mentor and support new team members, providing them with the knowledge and resources they need to excel in their roles.
  • Conduct regular workshops and skills-building sessions, ensuring the sales team is well-versed in both sales techniques and operational safety protocols.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience: 10+ years in sales, with at least 5 years in a senior sales leadership role; proven success in scaling teams and meeting targets in renewable energy, mobility, or related industries.
  • Data and Tech Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills; experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and SQL for data-driven decision-making and sales optimization.
  • Go-to-Market Strategy: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement go-to-market strategies, launch products, and adapt sales approaches by customer segment and geography.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Skilled in managing internal (R&D, Operations, Customer Support) and external (partners like Shell) stakeholder relationships to drive aligned company goals.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Strong communication skills; proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop high-performance sales teams, with experience in onboarding and continuous training.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field (MBA or Master’s preferred). Commitment to ongoing professional development in sales, data, and leadership.
