SF‘s field structure works closely with local partners in implementing projects and programmes.
Job Summary: The Communications Officer will be responsible for the implementation of the country’s communication strategy, production, and management of strategic communication material as well as be responsible for public relations and information management in close collaboration with the Partnerships & Institutional Fundraising Specialist.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication
- Support the development and implementation of SF Ugandas communication & branding strategy.
- Provide Support in the development of a digital communication strategy that responds to SF business objectives.
- Lead on digital communication to increase SFs Uganda online visibility and showcase the organization as preferred development partner
- Lead Social media communication and engagement and ensure up-to-date information on SF Uganda website and affiliated platforms
- Engage with media houses to produce approved content.
- Work with KRS to Proactively identify the need for, draft, produce, and edit information products such as electronic newsletters, annual reports, op-eds, brochures, press releases, social media material, and contributions to audio/visual programs and articles for SF target audiences.
- Train and provide individual support to staff and partners to observe communication protocols.
- Contribute to marketing and communications initiatives instigated by SF-KRS as required.
Marketing and Brand Visibility
- Produce high-quality photos, Videos, stories of change, case studies, and quotes demonstrating the impact of SFs work for a range of audiences. Establish and maintain a library of stories, case studies, and quotes.
- Manage SF branding in Uganda, ensuring it is understood and used effectively by staff and partners to achieve SF goals and mission
- Lead visibility at organization and partner events in line with SF objectives
- Create a branding approach that supports fundraising efforts, attracting both private and institutional donors.
- Ensure SF branding is visible and used according to guidelines on all external materials, including supporting and informing other staff and partners.
- Identify relevant opportunities to increase SFs brand visibility.
- Prepare material and contribute to the SF website and social media channels.
- Assume editorial responsibility for content.
- Design and coordinate procurement of branded materials such as T-shirts, banners, leaflets, calendars, etc.
- Update SF Uganda website and media handles with new and relevant information.
- PR and Info Mgmt.
- Manage SF Uganda’s social media and public email accounts and respond to enquiries as well as share communications with the relevant staff that come through the different accounts.
- Dissemination of program results, including research findings and policy briefs.
- Support fundraising and donor management activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in communications, Journalism, Public relations or related field.
- A Minimum of 3 years of experience as a media or communications officer.
- Experience working for a non-governmental organization.
- Demonstrated track record and work in photo/video/social media.
- Skills in photography, videography, video editing and design for social media
- Demonstrated skills in using social media platforms and website maintenance using Content Management System (CMS)
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications, specifically interactive digital media and in particular, advanced Adobe Suite, Canva, MailChimp, WordPress and productivity tools
- Demonstrated skills in program communications, development of Information, Education and Communication material, documentation and publication(including web-based documentation)
- Excellent spoken and written English: the general ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral forms; specific skills in writing press releases and articles/stories for traditional and electronic media
- Good interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate and liaise with a wide cross section of people including internal staff, partners, and the general public
- Ability to meet demanding deadlines with strong attentional to detail
