Job Summary: We are looking for a passionate Plant Manager interested in innovation and confident in coordinating and expanding the processing facility in Kiyoola, Mukono. The Plant Manager will oversee the daily operations, expansion, and continuous improvement of all processes at the facility.
The Plant Manager will be responsible for the daily operations and expansion of Amabanda’s processing facility and will drive continuous improvement and optimization of all processes. The manager will assist in recruiting and training qualified team members, work to increase client satisfaction, and implement best practices. Additionally, they will uphold compliance, efficiency, profitability, and trust by overseeing all plant activities while promoting a culture of high performance and integrity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
In-depth testing of radial lamination machine, suggesting improvements, and closely monitoring work done by the machine supplier to avoid delays.
Lead installation and testing of additional machines for the lamination business line.
Document the lamination process, including cost calculations.
Identify pricing for competitive laminated products (flooring, boards, etc.).
Set up a production order overview indicating delivery/lead time, resources needed, etc.
Streamline purchasing processes and save costs by:
- a) Identifying key suppliers for recurring items
- b) Conducting monthly orders with bank payments
- c) Indicating cost savings realized
Document the pole treatment process to secure quality (salt and sugar levels).
Verify biochar production accuracy and inventory registration.
Establish an inventory system for finished products (treated poles and others).
Ensure production output, product quality, and on-time shipping.
Enforce plant safety procedures.
Oversee the supply chain, including procurement and storage of raw materials, consumables, spares, and storage/stock control.
Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity, standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
Promote a culture of high performance and integrity.
Establish and maintain quality control procedures to ensure products meet industry standards.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Required Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven managerial experience.
Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources).
Familiarity with industry-standard equipment and technical expertise.
Knowledgeable in safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory, and stewardship processes.
Computer literacy.
Ability to create accountability and lead by example.
Strong team building, decision-making, and people management skills.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, production management, industrial technology, or a related field (preferably Industrial Engineering).
Open, flexible, and innovative working style.
Commitment to the values of Amabanda (ethical, collaboration, innovation & impact).
Must be gender-sensitive.
