This platform includes discounts, smartphones, e‑commerce opportunities, and on‑demand credit lines. Tugende has financed 70,000+ clients and has hundreds of employees serving clients across 22 branches in Uganda and 10 in Kenya.
About this role: The Marketing Lead will be responsible for developing and implementing Tugende’s marketing strategy that promotes the company brand, track impact of marketing campaigns and value customers’ insights to enhance Tugende’s market presence and drive company growth. Simultaneously, the Marketing Lead runs the day-to-day marketing activities that include implementation of marketing campaigns, social media management, supplier and partnership relationships, and inspiring and managing a team for greater results!
The Marketing Lead reports directly to the Head of Business Support.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Branding & Brand Communication:
- Assist in maintaining, improving and updating the company’s brand identity and guidelines
- Create and manage the brand communication plan, ensuring consistency across all channels and marketing materials
- Manage and negotiate co-branding activities with partners
Marketing Strategy & Budget Management:
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies and implementation plans aligned with business objectives
- Create a detailed marketing plan and budget in alignment with company objectives with timelines, and performance metrics based on customer insights
- Design marketing plans for new business development products and services at pilot as well as at scaling stage
- Develop a PR plan to complement the social media efforts and enhance brand communication in close cooperation with corporate relations department
- Continuously assess and report monthly to management on market conditions including customer trends, competition and new opportunities
Marketing Campaign Planning & Implementation
- Oversee and prioritise the development of marketing campaigns and initiatives to generate leads and support collections
- Make detailed marketing implementation plan with timelines based on approved budgets, and targeted KPIs for each running campaign
- Effectively implement co-marketing activities with partner organisations, such as suppliers, by timely relationship management, monthly planning sessions
- Ensure the effective execution of marketing activities
- Organise (online) training for (branch) staff to ensure marketing campaigns are properly implemented
- Marketing Partnership management, including relationship management, and negotiation and documentation of partner agreement (MOU/SLA)
- Support the creation of marketing materials, such as brochures, flyers, presentations, and promotional items, adhering to the brand’s guidelines
- Prepare briefings for artwork and external consultants for marketing-related activities
- Place timely orders for artwork, and marketing materials, by proper understanding of internal and external processes
- Coordinate with Customer relation department to ensure that SMS campaigns are implemented on time, and promotion calls are conducted according to plan
- Support corporate affairs in crafting press releases, articles, and other PR materials to showcase the company’s achievements and initiatives.
- Support corporate affairs with the organisation of public events, product launches, and other promotional activities
- Ensure all (branch) staff is up-to-date on all ongoing marketing campaigns and their roles and responsibilities in those by writing and posting marketing-related content on the Tugende intranet in real time
Social Media Management & Digital Marketing
- Document and execute a well planned and executed social media plan, including a content calendar and enhance brand communication in close cooperation with the corporate relations department
- Manage the company’s social media presence and responses on various platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
- Develop engaging and relevant content for social media channels to drive engagement and expand the company’s online reach
- Monitor social media analytics and report on performance metrics on a monthly basis (e.g. clicks, likes, comments, and shares) and include a slide for SMT presentation
- Ensure all Tugende digital media channels are up-to-date including the Tugende website
Marketing Campaign Effectiveness Monitoring
- Set up and manage a systemized monitoring system for the effectiveness of marketing activities, including writing briefings for dashboards and trackers to monitor KPIs and ROI
- Monitor marketing dashboards and trackers and prepare monthly evaluations/reports of marketing campaigns, sharing of learnings, tracking of KPIs, and incorporating learnings to further optimise and improve marketing campaign effectiveness
- Ensure that all marketing-related data is timely submitted and 100% accurate to ensure that monitoring tools give an accurate reflection of the marketing campaign’s effectiveness
- Present monthly reports and presentations to the Senior Management Team on marketing campaign effectiveness
- Closely coordinate with the Customer Relations Department on conducting timely disbursement and completion questionnaires and analyse this data to do a comprehensive evaluation of marketing campaign effectiveness
Lead Customer Insights:
- Coordinate and provide input on the activities of the customer insights coordinator
- Support on analysis and presentation of customer insights to SMT for existing business processes, products, services, marketing campaigns, or new business and product development
- Support Marketing team on translation of customer insights into marketing strategies for existing on new business to improve customer experience, and enhance product offerings
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or Business or any other relevant field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in marketing and proven experience in strategic marketing with a strong understanding of marketing principles and techniques.
- Min 3 years of experience leading a team, and demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team
- Strategic thinking with the ability to translate strategy into a practical action plan
- Experience in budget management
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Experience with implementation of marketing campaigns from planning to actual execution. Hands-on and getting-things-done mentality
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience managing social media platforms is preferred
