WWF Uganda Country Office (WWF UCO) works with central and local government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the local communities to implement its various conservation programmes on Energy and Climate, Forestry and Wildlife, and Freshwater in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Project Accountant will provide support in the implementation of conservation work under the guidance of the Senior Accountant while working closely with the Grants and Finance specialist and the project implementing teams.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor project fund flows, prepare calls for funds from donors as per agreed schedules and follow up with respective donors for fund remittances.
- Promptly process payments to staff, implementing partners, statutory bodies and other third parties through the online bank payment platforms, cash and checks as may be appropriate.
- Timely processing of financial transaction in the accounting system, prepare monthly bank reconciliations and other balance sheet accounts reconciliation and submit to the Finance Manager for approval
- Prepare budgets for grant proposals, and periodic budget forecasts for ongoing projects that are compliant with the donor guidelines, and internal cost recovery Standards
- Follow up with project teams to ensure that agreed project work-plans are adhered to and that the budget absorption is following the forecasted trend.
- Prepare periodic donor financial reports as per agreed reporting schedules and formats and discuss budget performance comments with the project managers before submission to the donors.
- Conduct periodic training sessions for staff and implementing partners on internal financial management policies, donor rules and all applicable country laws and legislations that may impact financial processed in the country office and enforce total compliance at all times.
- Drive initiatives to improve workflow and streamline the internal control processes, policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and productivity;
- Maintain proper records of each assigned project as per internal and donor record retention policies and guidelines to facilitate future reviews by auditors, donors and also for smooth staff transition
- Coordinate project specific compliance and annual audit processes as per donor agreements
- Follow up with project teams and implementing partners to ensure audit recommendations are addressed timely as per agreed audit action plan
- Work closely with the project implementation teams to identify and report to management on risks that affect effective project delivery
- Lead and guide teams on project close-out financial processes for ending projects as per close-out guidelines in the donor agreements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a University degree in Accounting/finance or a related field and a professional accounting qualification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (ACCA) is an added advantage
- At least three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in financial accounting, preferably in an international environment (NGO or Company).
- Experience working with government and OR donor funded projects with proficiency in the use of MS Office applications, particularly advanced level in MS excel is required. Experience in using ERP system is highly desirable.
- A team player with strong inter-personal skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
- Strong ability to establish prioritize, work within tight timelines and multi-task. Able to work under minimal supervision with high level of resilience with strong oral and written communication skills in English.
