Job Summary: The Accountant will be in charge of capturing and
processing of accounting data to generate monthly and annual financial reports
of the organisation in accordance with the Oxfam financial manual and generally
accepted accounting principles using the Pastel software.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The jobholder manages financial data entry in
    the pastel accounting software and production of monthly financial reports
    for submission to the Hague.
  • Prepares the monthly payroll in consultation
    with the Human Resource and FOM;
  • Conducts the administrative organisation of
    all data on payments and receipts of the office running costs, keeping
    records of all financial transactions.
  • Manages cash transactions in the office and
    maintains contact with the bank and HQ regarding financial transactions.
    Calculates currency conversions, records cash movements and prepares bank
    reconciliations;
  • Maintains financial records through filing,
    retrieval, retention, storage, compilation, coding, updating and purging
    in Pastel;
  • In charge of the production of management
    accounts from pastel
  • Key contact both in internal and external
    audits
  • Supports the program finance officers in
    preparation of donor reports;
  • Supports the FOM & PFM by participating
    fully in relevant funding activities, and assists in the development of
    donor proposals, budget submissions and other necessary activities to
    secure funding for program objectives
  • Performs any other relevant duty at the
    request of the line manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The applicant for the Oxfam Accountant
    vacancy should hold academic qualifications in Accounting, financial
    management, commerce, economics or related field (B.Com/BBA) and
    professional accounting qualifications CPA/ACCA.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of all
    core financial management activities, including accounts payable, cash
    management, budget development, statutory requirements (particularly
    related to Ugandan standards) and standard accounts
  • Proficiency in numeracy skills and experience
    using a computerised financial management information systems preferably
    Pastel and good computer skills (Excel especially, Word)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise work
    issues to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and adjust to constantly
    changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking
    skills with a proven proactive approach to identifying and resolving
    problems and suggesting improvements that continuously seek to provide a
    better service to Oxfam.
  • Excellent personal communication skills, in
    written and verbal English
  • A high level of self-awareness, personal
    energy, stamina and flexibility. Ability to work creatively, effectively
    and under own initiative
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Show commitment to Oxfam’s overall aims and
    policies and experience of promoting women’s rights and the interests of
    marginalized people in all aspects
