Job Title:  Principal
Accountant (2 Career Vacancies)
Organization: Public Service Commission

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Maintaining main and subsidiary Accounts.
  • Verifying financial documents and
    payments.
  • Updating and maintaining accounting
    ledgers for budgetary control.
  • Preparing estimates for expenditure.
  • Preparing periodical financial statements
    and reconciliation.
  • Preparing of final accounts.
  • Planning and monitoring work schedules.
  • Mentoring and supervising and developing
    subordinate staff.
  • Perform any other duties as may be
    assigned from time to time. 
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The Principal Accountant should hold an
    Honours Bachelors Degree in Finance and Accounting or Commerce (Accounting
    option) or Business Administration (Accounting opting), or Business
    Studies (Accounting option) plus full Professional Accounting
    qualifications like CpA, ACCA or CIMA OR an Honours Bachelors Degree in
    Sciences or Humanities plus full Professional Accounting qualifications
    like CPA, ACCA or CIMA OR Full professional Accounting qualifications like
    CPA, ACCA, or CPA plus a minimum of a Post Graduate Diploma in any
    relevant accounting discipline.
  • Possession of a Masters Degree in Business
    Administration or Financial Management or Accounting, or General
    Management form a recognized University/Institution shall be an added
    advantage
  • The applicants should have at least six
    (6) years working experience in Public Service, three (3) of which should
    have been served at the level of Senior Accountant in Government or equivalent
    level of experience from a reputable organization.
 Age: Between 28 years and above

Service Commission Office, 2nd Floor, Farmers House, Parliament Avenue,
Kampala, Ministry/Department Headquarters and District Service Commission

Hand written applications are also acceptable.
  • Application forms should bear the title of
    the post followed by the Reference Number specified against the vacancy.
    The appropriate Advert Title e.g. “PSC Internal Advert. No. 2/2014”
    should be indicated in capital letters on the top of each first page of
    the Public Service Form No. 3 (2008). Applicants should attach three sets
    of photocopies of their certificates and testimonials. Applicants
    subsequently shortlisted for oral interviews shall be required to present
    certified copies and originals of their academic transcripts and
    certificates at the time of sitting the Oral Interviews.
  • Applicants should attach three (3) recent
    certified passport size photographs and should apply for a maximum of only
    two (2) posts clearly indicating the first and second choice on the
    application.
