About MUWRP: The Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-government, non-proﬁt HIV research program that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement of Military Medicine Inc. of USA (HJF). The primary purpose of MUWRP is to develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate disease threats of public health importance to Uganda. Activities include; vaccine development and building of vaccine testing capability in Uganda, conducting of epidemiological and basic research and provision of HIV Treatment, care and support and surveillance of inﬂuenza and other emerging infections.

Job Summary: Incumbent will be located at the Makerere University/Walter Reed Program (MUWRP) in Kampala. The Accounts Assistant will provide overall support to the Finance section in the areas of petty cash management, voucher preparation, following up accountability of working advances, ﬁlling of accounting documents and entering accounting data into the accounting software. This position requires keen attention to detail and high levels of conﬁdentiality and integrity.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

· Maintenance, monitoring the Program’s petty cashbooks

· Receiving all approved payment requests

· Entering approved payment requests into accounting software- Microsoft Dynamics NAV

· Uploading payments into the online banking platforms (Straight2bank for SCB and Citi online banking for CITIBANK)

· Preparation/ lining up of payment vouchers for both cash and bank payments

· Registering all payments before issuing them to the vendors and ensuring that receipts are obtained.

· Follows up accountability of advances following procedures in the accounting manual

· Processing receipts and sales invoices for Lab incomes

· Ensure utility bills are promptly settled as and when they fall due

· Participate in the preparation of Audit ﬁles / Audit processes

· Files all accounting documents in properly labeled ﬁ les

· Assists in the preparation of monthly bank reconciliations..

· Other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor and / or Head of Department.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

· Microsoft Dynamics NAV

· 2 Years Work Experience

Physical Capabilities: Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally or other means as deemed appropriate.
The Incumbent will work at MUWRP Plot 42 Nakasero Road and should be able to travel to the Project’s Collaborative Sites.
