Location: Uganda
Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is an institution set up under the Electricity Act 1999, Cap 145 Laws of Uganda to Regulate the Electricity Sector in Uganda. ERA would like to recruit a qualified, competent and motivated Engineer to support the Technical Regulation directorate of the Authority.
Job Purpose: Promote investment in Uganda’s electricity sector; Carry out energy planning for Uganda and participate in sector stakeholder seminars, meetings and workshops, deputize Manager – Planning and Development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Guide intending investors on the procedure for investment in Uganda’s electricity sector.
·         Examine new projects & investment for appropriateness.
·         Carry out technical evaluation of project applications and technical plans submitted by Investors.
·         Examine license and permit applications for completeness.
·         Conduct site visits during the permit and license application stages to ascertain the viability of the proposed projects.
·         Coordinate activities of the Projects/ licensing task team.
·         Coordinate with the relevant authorities to secure approvals/ permits/licenses required for investment in the electricity sector.
·         Participate in energy planning carried out by sector stakeholders.
·         Promote the use of alternative technology in electricity generation, transmission & distribution.
·         Prepare technical evaluation reports on new applications.
·         Maintain an up-to-date database of all ongoing projects.
·         Inform ERA of alternative technology for electricity systems.
·         Attend project site meeting.
·         Prepare and publish information on available investment opportunities in Uganda.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
·         University preferably in Civil Engineering/Electrical Engineering.
·         Should be a registered Engineer by the Engineers Registration Board.
Age: Between 28- 40Years.
Related Job Experience/Additional Skills:
Essential:
·         Engineering design (including computer based design techniques).
·         Project management skills.
·         Knowledge of electricity systems, particularly hydro-electricity systems.
·         Conversant with Electricity Policy of Uganda government.
·         Technical Innovation skills.
·         At least 3 years of relevant experience related to power sector.
Desirable:
·         Conversant with the Electricity Supply Industry in Uganda.
·         Patient.
·         Team player.
·         Trustworthy.
·         Should be hard working and resilient.
·         Good communication skills.
·         Proficiency in relevant professional computer packages.
