Founded in 2006 for expatriate communities in Europe, it has fast become a global brand synonymous with connecting customers with their loved ones across oceans, borders and networks at the lowest possible price. The business continues to make inroads to new markets regularly, most recently adding Uganda, with plans for additional launches this year.
Job Summary: Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic External Affairs Manager to join our team in Uganda as a Relationship Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and enhancing the company’s relationships with key external stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and the media. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of the telecommunications sector in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Government and Regulatory Relations:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with government officials, regulatory authorities, and industry bodies.
- Monitor and analyze regulatory developments and legislative activities affecting the telecommunications industry.
- Advocate for Lycamobile’s interests and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and sustain effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including business partners, community leaders, and advocacy groups.
- Represent Lycamobile at industry events, conferences, and meetings with external stakeholders.
- Coordinate and manage stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.
Media Relations and Communications:
- Develop and implement media strategies to enhance the company’s visibility and reputation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and manage press releases, media kits, and other communication materials.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand representation across all media channels.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):
- Lead the development and execution of Lycamobile’s CSR initiatives in Uganda.
- Identify and manage partnerships with local organizations and NGOs to support community development projects.
- Track and report on the impact of CSR activities, ensuring alignment with corporate values and goals.
Crisis Management:
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage potential risks and mitigate negative impacts on the company’s reputation.
- Act as a spokesperson during crises, providing accurate and timely information to stakeholders.
Research and Analysis:
- Research public policy, industry trends, and competitor activities to inform strategic decision-making.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management on external affairs activities and outcomes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in external affairs, public relations, government relations, or a similar role, preferably within the telecommunications industry.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and public policy landscape in Uganda.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and persuasively.
- Proven track record in building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with CRM software.
