About Organisation:
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research Organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, healthcare and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza- like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also epidemiological, basic and implementation research in HIV treatment, care and prevention programs in the Districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma and Buikwe.
Job Summary: The Prevention Officer- VMMC will provide technical support and leadership in the planning and implementation of the VMMC program in static and outreach sites in Luwero and Nakasongola. He/she will be responsible for mentoring Health care workers for VMMC service delivery and HIV prevention activities at the health facilities. He/She will work closely with the VMMC team to develop innovative evidence-based interventions to improve reach of the pivot age and ensure infection prevention procedures are in place, Adverse events are well managed and reported.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct VMMC- device/ surgical VMMC procedures as per WHO/MOH guidelines at fixed or mobile safe male circumcision sites.
- Conduct Health Education session and /routine physical examinations.
- Ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
- Participate in complete, timely and accurate documentation of all surgical and follow –up procedures.
- Maintain surgical instruments and theatre equipment
- Coordinate with CBOs and community-based structures supporting mobilization of men to improve access to VMMC services.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must have a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
- Must be registered and licensed with the Allied Health Professionals Council
- Training in the Uganda HIV Prevention, care and treatment guidelines 2020
- Three years of experience in the implementation of VMMC program
- Able to travel on water
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate in English and Luganda.
- Ability to permanently reside in any of the MUWRP supported districts of Kayunga, Luwero, Nakasongola, Mukono, Buikwe and Buvuma.
