About Organisation:
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research Organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, healthcare and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza- like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also epidemiological, basic and implementation research in HIV treatment, care and prevention programs in the Districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma and Buikwe.
Job Summary: The Mid Wife will serve as a roaming midwife for the Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) CASACDE sites.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct cervical cancer screening and thermal ablation treatments at clinics lacking this capability or in need of support to ensure access to screening and treatment with pre- arranged appointments.
- Provide educational talks and counseling in clinics about HPV testing and cervical cancer.
- Screen WLHIV for eligibility for cervical cancer screening.
- Provide WLHIV with detailed counseling and instructions on HPV self-sampling.
- Appropriately label, package, and send HPV samples to the laboratory for testing.
- Complete the MoH registers including the Cervical cancer screening eligibility log, cervical cancer screening & treatment register, Cervical cancer screening client card and the CASCADE tools.
- Track HPV results return and ensure that women access cervical cancer screening and treatment services as needed.
- Performing pelvic exams, VIA, thermal ablation, and make necessary referrals as needed for HPV positive women.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in midwifery
- Two years of post-qualification professional experience
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
- Previous work in a research environment is an added advantage.
- Training and acquired skills in Cervical cancer screening and thermoablation is an added advantage.
Personal Attributes & Physical Ability:
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to professionally communicate in writing, verbally or other means deemed appropriate.
- Good interpersonal/communication skills
- Fluency in verbal and written English and Luganda
