The Women’s International Peace Centre, formerly Isis-WICCE, is a feminist organization founded in 1974 and based in Kampala, Uganda. Our mission is to ignite women’s leadership, amplify their voices, and deepen their impact in recreating peace. Our WEAVE model intersects research (on women’s specific experiences and needs), evidence-based advocacy (to influence national, regional, and international policy and practice), holistic healing (to enable women’s wellbeing and participation in peace processes), skills and movement building to equip WHRDs with necessary skills, build networks and facilitate exchange of strategies to advance women’s leadership for peace.

Job Summary:  Under the supervision of the National Coordinator, the Youth Coordinator will perform the following functions: support Activity planning, manage engagement with youth, support training and related activities, coordinate with relevant stakeholders including youth networks, and coordinate organizational learning, and reporting.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• The applicant must hold a first degree or professional qualification in peace and security studies, public administration and management; development studies; international relations, or a relevant field
• At least five to eight years of experience working in a relevant field, including project planning and management
• Excellent understanding of youth and civil society issues in Uganda and demonstrable experience in working with youth
• A good understanding of key political, social and economic issues in Uganda, and an interest in conflict prevention, peace-building, and governance programming involving young people
• Experience working in peace-building will be an advantage
• Experience working with youth networks, youth policy, and engagement with the government will be an advantage
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint) and social media.
• Some experience of participating in and running youth programs is beneficial but not required
• Knowledge of and interest in the electoral processes and social justice issues
• Ability to relate to young people
• A self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills
• Must be grounded and organized and yet flexible and open to the changing demands
• Willing to step into tasks as needed and requested by management
