In Uganda, De Heus is best known for its brand Koudijs. To extend its business in East Africa, De Heus will start local production of animal feed in Uganda and Kenya. The new plant in Uganda will produce aqua feed to power the rapidly growing aquaculture sector.
Job Summary: De Heus is seeking someone to fill the position of Purchasing and Sustainability Manager. The focus of this role would be on; residual streams and by-products, value chain initiatives and advancing the purchasing function
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Purchasing
- Providing insights and plans (data analysis)
- Overview of suppliers and supply from regions/countries
- Prepare agreements together with GM’s
Sustainability
- Collecting data, reporting, working group for residual streams, implementing plans to meet goals, community projects (eyecare)
- Certifications, Traceability, local LCA & LUC
Value Chain and Funding
- Direct sourcing in Uganda for both Uganda and Kenya
Reporting
- Power BI dashboards and report development together with IT NL
Aqua Academy Set Up
- Set-up of curriculum together with species specialist
Key Results
- Agreements with biomass suppliers
- Agreements with soy processors to guarantee supply of quality & quantity.
- Improved direct sourcing’ from farmers (such as including training, loans & seed to improve yield).
- Set up model to collect and process mukene (silverfish) and ochonga (shrimp) to quality fishmeal.
- New / innovative ingredients, such as yeast, sweet potato and banana.
- Set up ‘improved direct sourcing’ from farmers (such as including training, loans & seed to improve yield).

- Timely and accurate Reporting
- Aqua based curriculum in place and running.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor or Equivalent of in Environment and Resource Management.
- Postgraduate in the same field is an added advantage.
- Three to five years of experience at international level.
